GCAmTour-Houston, The Woodlands Panther Trail Tournament Results, June 11, 2012

Sudden Death Playoffs determine the winners of the Senior Palmer Flight and Senior Jones Flight at The Woodlands Resort, Panther Trail Course.  Congratulations to Tom Crea and Neil MacDonald on their playoff victories!

The Course:  The Woodland Resort, Panther Trail Course, The Woodlands, TX.  The course was in good condition with green fairways and rough.  There were some soft spots and bunker washed out from recent heavy rains.  The greens were good, freshly mowed in the morning, running around 9.5-10.

The Weather:  A beautiful day for golf if you like it HOT and HUMID!  A nice mix of blue sky, sunshine, and clouds were over the course throughout the day.  Temperatures were in the 70’s in the morning and warmed up to the low 90’s in the afternoon, heat index over 100.  The winds were steady most of the day from the SSW, 10-15 mph.

The Tournament:

Senior Hogan Flight:  Top 5:  George Carlisle (75), Gary Ladd (77), Larry Smith (79), Vernon Wells (80/39), Bob Miller (80/40).
George Carlisle shocks the Senior Hogan field with a career low tournament round of 75 for his first victory of the 2012 season.  Prior to this round, Carlisle’s best round of the season has been 83.  Carlisle’s round included twelve pars and birdies at holes 2 and 3.  Gary Ladd finished with runner up honors and round of 77, including ten pars and birdies at holes 6 and 8.  Larry Smith fired what normally would have been a winning round of 79, capturing third place honors.  Smith carded eleven pars on his round.  Vernon Wells finished with fourth place honors and round of 80/39.  Wells carded eleven pars on his round.  Bob Miller finished with fifth place honors and round of 80/40, carding twelve pars on the day.

Sarazen Flight:  Top 5:  Aaron Freeman (77), Thomas Kobayashi (84), Gary Gum (87), James Sheppeard (90), Jason Hollis (91).

It’s been a long time coming for Jay Crawford as he has struggled on tour this season with a best round of 85.  Sooner or later it was “break out” time for Jay and that’s exactly what he did, winning five strokes clear of the field.  Crawford fired a career low tournament round of 78 that included thirteen pars!  Mark Maddox finished with runner up honors and round of 83, including nine pars and a birdie at the 1st hole.  Jim Craig finished with third place honors and round of 85.  Craig carded eight pars and a birdie at the 16th hole.  Charles Tucker finished with fourth place honors and round of 87/41, including six pars and birdies at holes 8 and 16.  Larry Viktorin finished with fifth place honors and round of 87/44, including seven pars.

Senior Jones Flight:  Top 5:  Neil MacDonald (87), Mike Innes (87), Travis Doughty (89), Lu Cormier (92/44), Michael Bell (92/45/31).
