With an over bloated field, packed to the gills, players were able to take advantage of the incredible course conditions leading up to the PGA event. Swirling winds, light and variable, confused much of the field, slow true rolling greens added other elements to the complexity of an already tough track.
The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $810, bringing the Texas Tour local events total to $1,060 in contributions to the Foundation.
RESULTS:
Championship Flight: League City, TX, member Blake Wilson, a second-year tour player, equaled his previous low round -4 - 68 to command his fifth victory on tour. Over those five wins, Wilson is a total -3. Thomas Cruickshank of Richmond, TX, and Nacogdoches, TX, first-time tour player Jon David Pitts shared the runner-up honors nine strokes back.
Senior Championship Flight: Gordan Wagner of Sugar Land, TX, became a two-time winner on tour, both coming at The Golf Club of Houston. Wagner, with three birdies on the round, finished two strokes clear of Silsbee, TX, member David Jones. Jones with two birdies of his own finished in the runner-up spot three strokes clear over Rich Vigil, rounding out the top three.
Palmer Flight: Jeff Zemencsik of Magnolia, TX, cleared the back nine five strokes better than the front to pick up his sixth win on tour. Two birdies helped make the difference over Al Campo of Deer Park, TX, with just one on the round. Campo carded his best finish since his promotion from the Hogan Flight, one stroke ahead of a pair looked in a tie for third. Dallas Webster, of Wylie, TX, and Sugar Land, TX, member Roger Masek split the third place finish.
Senior Palmer Flight: Vidor, TX, player Robert Corbello became a thirteen-time winner on tour, with the help of a -1 - 35 on the back nine. Three strokes back, Robert Hayward of Houston, TX, and Hill Country Tour member, Mike Harkins of Cedar Park, TX, shared the runner-up finish. Tim Koslowski of nearby Humble, TX, dunked a 170 yard shot for an eagle 2 on the par 4 - 17th to split the Giant Skins pot.
Hogan Flight: Rene Realme, of San Antonio, TX, making a habit of shooting in the 70's of late, recorded his twelfth win on tour. Four strokes back, Houston, TX, member Rick Houchins, took home the runner-up spot three strokes ahead of a pair of players knotted in the third place spot. Kirk Boerner of Fort Worth, TX, and College Station, TX, player Rick Smalley rounded out the top three.
Senior Hogan Flight: Dallas Tour player, Mark Taylor of Coppell, TX, played his way into his third win of the points season and apparent promotion to the Senior Palmer Flight. Taylor finished with a with a five-stroke advantage over the pair of Cypress, TX, members, David Anthony and Will Whitley sharing the runner-up finish.
Sarazen Flight: Darren Bufton, traveling from Bedford, TX overcame to holes with big 10's with the help of three birdies to record his tenth win on tour and second of the points season. One stroke back, the trio of Richards, TX, player Eddie Thomas, Joe Michetti of Montgomery, TX, and Dallas, TX, player Mark Tylenda, split the second place honors.
Senior Sarazen Flight: Richmond, TX, resident Greg Faubion, grabbed his sixth win on tour and a birdie on the tough par 4 - 2nd paid off big. Two strokes back, L.P. Jones of Houston, took home the second place finish. Two strokes back of Jones, Glynn Aldredge, of Orange, TX, Sealy, TX, member Michael Nowotny, and Larry Murphy of Cypress, TX, rounded out the top three finishes.
Jones Flight: Top three spots head back to the Hill Country. James Price of Portland, TX, with a birdie on the par 4 - 5th, carded his eighth win on tour. Price's traveling partner, William Speck of Corpus Christi, TX, two strokes back and one stroke ahead of Austin, TX, member Jay Mills in the show place finish.
Senior Jones Flight: Houston, TX, member Rick Halprin picked up his second win of the season and thirteenth on tour with the help of a birdie on the par 4 - 5th. Six strokes back, Marcy Glidden of Brookshire, TX, with a birdie of her own on the par 3 - 16th, finished in the runner-up spot, with Mark Boles, of Sealy, TX, rounding out the top three.
Snead Flight: Charles Mielak of Mico, TX recorded his second win in as many attempts and fifth on tour. Mielak finished two strokes clear of first-year player Allen Gumpenberger of Conroe, TX, and Houston, TX, member Javier Quintero sharing the second place finish.
