Rikki Lackey “ACES” the par-3 16th hole on his way to a four-under par round of 68 to win the Championship Flight at Woodforest Golf Club. First time flight winners claim victory, including Rikki Lackey, Leslie Henry, Lahn Nguyen, Yeaji Yoon, and Damian Smith.
The Course: Woodforest Golf Club, Montgomery, TX. The course was in very good condition with green fairways and DEEP rough. The greens were very good, fast and smooth, running around 12.
The Weather: Another HOT & HUMID day in Texas! Mostly clear sky with scattered clouds throughout the day. Temperatures were near 80 in the morning and warmed up to the high 90’s in the afternoon, heat index over 100. The winds were light most of the day from the SSW, 5-8 mph.

Lackey’s first tour victory included eleven pars, birdies at holes 2, 3, 8, and 10, and an ACE at the par-3 16th hole! Travis Nichols finished with runner up honors and round of 77/37, carding twelve pars and a birdie at the 2nd hole. Eric Strine finished with third place honors and round of 77/39, including fourteen pars. Aaron Pickering finished with fourth place honors and round of 77/40. Pickering carded ten pars and birdies at holes 2 and 12. Thomas Smith finished with fifth place honors and round of 78/37. Smith carded twelve pars and birdies at holes 2 and 13.
Palmer Flight: Top 5: Tino Flores (74), Martin Nealey (75), Stephen Asp II (78), John Hunt (79), Jason Hollis (80).
Tino Flores validates his victory at the Barton Creek Major last weekend by winning the Palmer Flight at Woodforest. Flores third victory of the season and round of 74 included ten pars and birdies at holes 3, 9, and 15. Martin Nealey finished with runner up honors and round of 75, just one-stroke back. Nealey had victory within grasp by carding twelve pars and birdies at holes 6 and 9. The costly double-bogey on the 18th knocked him out of victory. Stephen Asp II finished with third place honors and round of 78. Asp’s first tournament round included twelve pars and a birdie at the 7th hole. John Hunt finished with fourth place honors and round of 79, including nine pars and a birdie at the third hole. Jason Hollis finished with fifth place honors and round of 80. Hollis carded ten pars and a birdie at the 16th hole.
Senior Palmer Flight: Top 5: Jan Peebles (71), Herb Reynolds (76), Robert Corbello (79/39), Allan Collier (79/44), Michael Walker (81).
Jan Peebles fired his lowest tournament round of the season with a 1-under par 71, winning the Senior Palmer Flight at Woodforest by five strokes. Peebles fourth victory of the season included fifteen pars, birdies at holes 6 and 11, and one bogey. Herb Reynolds finished with runner up honors and round of 76, carding eight pars and birdies at holes 2, 5, and 13. Robert Corbello finished with third place honors and round of 79/39. Corbello carded ten pars and made a great birdie at the difficult par-4 18th hole. Allan Collier finished with fifth place honors and round of 79/44. Collier carded eleven pars and a birdie at the 2nd hole. Once again, Collier fired a great front nine, 1-under par 35 but faded on the back nine. Michael Walker finished with fifth place honors and round of 81, including nine pars and a birdie at the 2nd hole.
Hogan Flight: Top 5: Leslie Henry (80), Don York (81), Keith Storey (83), Jeff Green (84), Roger Masek (86).
Leslie Henry has been close to victory and lost in a playoff at the Wilderness earlier this year. Henry’s round of 80 was good for a one-stroke victory as she captured her first tournament victory. Henry carded eight pars and birdies at holes 1, 2, and 3. Don York finished with runner up honors and round of 81. York carded twelve pars and a birdie at the first hole. Keith Storey finished with third place honors and round of 83. Storey carded nine pars on the day. Jeff Green finished with fourth place honors and round of 84, just one-stroke back. Green carded eight pars and a birdie at the 9th hole. Roger Masek finished with fifth place honors and round of 86. Masek carded eight pars on his round.
Senior Hogan Flight: Top 5: Paul Wuerdeman (80/40), Will Whitley (80/42), Rickey Felts (81), Kevin Thibodeaux (82/43), Bill Schuster (82/44).
Paul Wuerdeman made his trip over from the Hill Country Tour worthwhile as he captured the Senior Hogan flight victory and his fourth tournament win of the season. Wuerdeman carded eleven pars on the day. Will Whitley finished with runner up honors and round of 80/42. Whitley carded eleven pars on his round. Rickey Felts finished with third place honors and round of 81. Felts carded twelve pars on his round. Kevin Thibodeaux finished with fourth place honors and round of 82/43, including eight pars. Bill Schuster finished with fifth place honors and round of 82/44. Schuster carded eight pars and birdies at holes 2 and 15.
Sarazen Flight: Top 5: James Sheppeard (79), Terron Gaines (82), Kevin Le (83), David Cox (86/41), Gary Gum (86/43).
James Sheppeard has successfully made the transition from the Jones Flight and captured the Sarazen Flight at Woodforest with his lowest tournament round of the season, 79. Sheppeard carded seven pars and birdies at holes 5, 9, and 16. Terron Gaines finished with runner up honors and round of 82. Gaines carded seven pars and a birdie at the 2nd hole. Kevin Le made his tour debut with a third place finish and round of 83. Le carded eight pars and a birdie at the 2nd hole. David Cox finished with fourth place honors and round of 86/41. Cox carded seven pars on the day. Gary Gum finished with fifth place honors and round of 86/43. Gum carded six pars and a birdie at the par-3 9th hole.
Senior Sarazen Flight: Top 5: Lahn Nguyen (83), Lane McKinney (86), Charles Tucker (87/39), Greg Faubion (87/43), Burnie Rogers (93/48).
Lahn Nguyen captured his first victory of the season three strokes clear of the field with a round of 83. Nguyen carded six pars and a birdie at the par-5 third hole. Lane McKinney finished with runner up honors and round of 86. McKinney carded five pars and a birdie at the par-3 2nd hole. Charles Tucker finished with third place honors and round of 87/39. Tucker carded ten pars and a birdie at the par-4 fifteenth hole. Tucker had victory within sight but had a bad stretch on holes 5-7. Greg Faubion finished with fourth place honors and round of 87/43. Faubion carded eight pars on the day. Burnie Roger made the trip down from the DFW Tour and place fifth. Roger round of 93/48 included five pars.
Jones Flight: Top 5: Yeaji Yoon (86), Phillip Sumang (87/44), Bryan Young (87/45), Kristopher Bixby (89), Randy Pegg (99).
Yeaji Yoon made her tour debut with a victory at Woodforest Golf Club. Yoon’s round of 86 was one-stroke clear of the field and included seven pars. Phillip Sumang finished with runner up honors and round of 87/44. Sumang carded six pars on the round. Bryan Young finished with third place honors and round of 87/45, including seven pars and a birdie at the par-3 2nd hole. Kristopher Bixby finished with fourth place honors and round of 89, carding six pars and a birdie at the par-5 6th hole. Randy Pegg finished with fifth place honors and round of 99. Pegg carded three pars on the day.
Senior Jones Flight: Top 5: Mark Dion (87), Randy Adcock (91/47), Neil Macdonald (91/49), Mike Murphy (92), William Senne (94).
Mark Dion captured his second victory of the season, this time with a round of 87, four strokes clear of the field. Dion carded eight pars en route to victory. Randy Adcock, former National Champion, finished with runner up honors and round of 91/47. Adcock carded five pars and a birdie at the par-3 16th hole. Neil Macdonald finished with third place honors and round of 91/49. Macdonald carded four pars and a birdie at the par-3 second hole. Macdonald also won our 50/50 charity raffle. Mike Murphy finished with fourth place honors and round of 92. Murphy carded three pars and a birdie at the par-3 second hole. William Senne finished fifth place with a round of 94. Senne carded three pars on the day.
Snead Flight: Damian Smith (89), Robert Viator (90), Patrick Richardson (95), Javier Quintero (100), Thomas Payne (101).
Damian Smith captured his first tour victory, one-stroke clear of the field and round of 89. Smith carded eight pars en route to victory. Robert Viator finished with runner up honors and round of 90. Viator carded six pars on the round. Patrick Richardson finished with third place honors and round of 95. Richardson carded eight pars on his round. Javier Quintero finished with fourth place honors and round of 100. Quintero carded four pars on the round. Thomas Payne finished with fifth place honors and round of 101, one-stroke back. Payne carded three pars on his round.
