Jeff Zemencsik (Houston, TX) – GCAmTour-Houston, June 7, 2014. Hole-in-One! John Hilgers recorded his first “ACE” of
the 2014 season on the beautiful par-3 12th hole island green
overlooking Lake Conroe. The “ACE” was
his forth of his career and was struck with a 9-iron from 130yds, playing with
a Srixon ball. Playoffs! Two “Sudden Death” playoffs headline the
day’s events at Walden on Lake Conroe, Montgomery, Texas.
The Course:
Walden on Lake Conroe, Montgomery, Texas. The course was in beautiful condition with
green tees, fairways, and rough. The
greens were in good condition, grainy and medium fast, running 9.5.
The Weather:
Another beautiful day along the Texas Gulf Coast and a nice day to be
outside with a mix of blue sky, clouds, and sunshine. The temperatures were in the lower to mid 90’s, hot and
humid. The winds were relatively calm
from the S 5-8mph throughout the day.
The Tournament:
Championship Flight:
Jeff Whitzel (76), Denny Reiner (79), Neill Osborne (82), Dennis Reiner
Jr. (83), Katy Kile (85).
Jeff
Whitzel captured his second victory of the season and is now one win away from
Nationals qualifying. Whitzel fired the
low round of the tournament with a 4-over par 76 played from 6,700+ yds. Whitzel’s round included fourteen pars
against four bogeys, going out and in with matching nines of 38. Denny Reiner made his tour debut and
finished with runner up honors and round of 79. Reiner carded nine pars and a birdie at the par-3 6th
hole, going out in 39 and in with 40.
Neill Osborne finished with third place honors and round of 82. Osborne carded eleven pars on the round,
going out in 40 and in with 42. Dennis
Reiner Jr. finished with forth place honors and round of 83. Reiner Jr. carded nine pars on the day, going
out in 45 and in with 38. Katy Kile
finished with fifth place honors and round of 85. Kile carded seven pars and a birdie at the par-3 4th
hole, going out in 44 and in with 41.
Palmer Flight: Art
Flores (81), Milton Kirkwood (82), Harold Jackson (85/40), Cedric Smith
(85/41), Randy Hodges (86).
Art
Flores captured his second victory of the season and is now one win away from
Nationals qualifying. Flores round of
82 was good enough for a one-stroke victory and included ten pars, going out in
42 and in with 39. Milton Kirkwood
finished one stroke back with a round of 82 and claimed runner up honors. Kirkwood carded five pars and birdies at
holes 10, 11, and 15, going out in 45 and with one-over par 37. Harold Jackson finished with third place
honors and round of 85/40. Jackson
carded four pars and birdies at holes 8, 13, 15, and 16, going out in 45 and in
with 40. Cedric Smith finished with
forth place honors and round of 85/41.
Smith carded seven pars and birdies at holes 2 and 16, going out in 44
and in with 41. Randy Hodges, reining
Sr. Hogan National Champion, finished with fifth place honors and round of
86. Hodges carded eight pars on the
day, going out in 46 and in with 40.
Hogan Flight:
Chris Stavinoha (87), Roger Masek (87), Jeff Stahlhut (88), Tom Dyer
(89), Mike Rayburn (90).
“Sudden
Death” Playoff determines the winner of the Hogan Flight at GCAmTour-Houston
event, Walden on Lake Conroe. Chris
Stavinoha and Roger Masek both carded rounds of 87 in regulation play. The playoff began on the 1st hole
and Stavinoha carded par-4 for the victory over Masek. In regulation play Stavinoha carded four
pars and birdie at the par-3 6th hole, going out in 42 and in with
45. Masek carded eight pars and a
birdie at the par-5 10th hole, going out in 39 and in with 48. Jeff Stahlhut finished with third place
honors and round of 88. Stahlhut carded
three pars and birdies at holes 3 and 17, going out in 42 and in with 46. Tom Dyer finished with forth place honors
and round of 89. Dyer carded seven pars
on the day, going out in 40 and in with 49.
Mike Rayburn finished with fifth place honors and round of 90. Rayburn carded five pars and a birdie at the
par-5 16th hole, going out in 42 and in with 48.
Senior Hogan Flight:
Christopher Phillips (80), George Smith (82/40/24), Daryl Epperson

Christopher
Phillips captured his third win of the season and in doing so has qualified for
Nationals. Phillips victory round of 80
was good enough for a two-stroke clear win in the tightly contested Sr. Hogan
Flight. Phillips carded eight pars and
birdies at holes 9 and 10, going out in 39 and in with 41. George Smith finished with runner up honors
and round of 82/40/24, just two strokes back.
Smith carded eight pars and birdies at holes 12 and 16, going out in 42
and in with 40. Daryl Epperson finished
with third place honors and round of 82/40/27, carding six pars and birdies at
holes 12 and 16, going out in 42 and in with 40. Ernie Dyer finished with forth
place honors and round of 85/40. Dyer
carded eight pars on the round, going out in 45 and in with 40. Chris Neelley finished with fifth place
honors and round of 85/42. Neelley
carded six pars on the day, going out in 43 and in with 42.
Sarazen Flight:
Kyle Young (81), Scott Thompson (86), Rick Smalley (88), Gary Gum (91),
Kendall Hisey (95).
Kyle
Young captured his forth victory of the 2014 season by matching his low
tournament round of the year, 81.
Young’s round of 81 was five strokes clear of the field and included
seven pars and birdies at holes 5 and 9, going out in two-over par 38 and in
with 43. Scott Thompson made the trip
over from the Hill Country Tour worthwhile and finished with runner up honors
and round of 86. Thompson carded seven
pars and a birdie at the par-4 3rd hole, going out in 42 and in with
44. Rick Smalley finished with third
place honors and round of 88. Smalley
carded eight pars and
a birdie at the par-3 4th hole, closest to pin winner. Smalley went out in 42 and in with 46. Gary Gum finished with forth place honors
and round of 91. Gum carded four pars
and a birdie at the par-4 15th hole, going out in 48 and in with
43. Kendall Hisey finished with fifth
place honors and round of 95. Hisey
carded four pars and a birdie at the par-5 9th hole, going out in 47
and in with 48.

Death” Playoff determines the winner of the Senior Sarazen Flight at
GCAmTour-Houston event, Walden on Lake Conroe.
John Scott, reining Sr. Jones National Champion, and Craig Duncan both
carded rounds of 83 in regulation play.
On the first playoff hole it was Scott carding a bogey-5 for the
victory, his third of the year. In
regulation play Scott carded seven pars and a birdie at the signature par-5 11th
hole, going out in 42 and in with 41.
Duncan carded nine pars and birdies at holes 12 and 13, going out in
one-over par 37 but faded coming in with 46.
L.P. Jones finished with third place honors and round of 87. Jones carded nine pars on the day, going out
in 45 and in with 42. Marty Hodges
finished with forth place honors and round of 90, carding five pars and a
birdie at the par-4 15th hole, going out in 47 and in with 43. Keith Gannon finished with fifth place
honors and round of 94. Gannon carded
five pars and a birdie at the par-5 16th hole, going out in 52 and
in with 42.

pars on the day going out in 43 and in with 47. Blake Barnes finished with third place honors and round of
90/50. Barnes carded five pars and a
birdie at the par-5 9th hole, going out in 40 and in with 50. Denis Villere finished with forth place
