GCAmTour-Houston, The Woodlands Player Course Tournament Results, June, 24, 2014

Jeff Zemencsik (Houston, TX) – GCAmTour-Houston, June 24, 2014.  HOT, HUMID weather and calm winds combined with great course conditions produced competitive scoring and Playoffs!  Two “Sudden Death” scorecard playoffs headline the day’s events at The Woodlands Player Course, The Woodlands, Texas.

The Course:  The Woodlands Player Course, The Woodlands, Texas.  The course was in beautiful condition with green tees, fairways, and rough.  The greens were in great condition, smooth and fast, running 10+.

The Weather:  A HOT, HUMID day along the Texas Gulf Coast.  If you like it hot, it was a nice day to be outside with a mix of clouds, sunshine, blue sky, and later thunderstorms.  The temperatures were in the lower to mid 90’s, hot and humid.  The winds were relatively calm from the ESE 5-8mph for most of the day.

The Tournament:

Championship Flight:  Travis Nichols (76), Aaron Pickering (77), Corey Freeland (80), Daniel Lokey (81), Nathan Ashley (89).

Travis Nichols captured his fourth victory of the 2014 season with a matching low tournament round of 76.  Nichols also successfully defended his Palmer Flight victory from the 2013 season.  Nichols round of 76 included twelve pars and a birdie at the par-5 16th hole, going out and in with matching nines of 38.  Aaron Pickering finished with runner up honors and round of 77, just one-stroke back.  Pickering carded twelve pars and birdies at holes 2 and 14, going out in 37 and in with 40.  Corey Freeland finished with third place honors and round of 80, three strokes back.  Freeland carded ten pars and a birdie at the par-3 14th hole, going out and in with matching nines of 40.  Daniel Lokey made his tour debut with a fourth place finish and round of 81.  Lokey carded ten pars and a birdie at the par-3 11th hole.  It was a tail of two nines for Lokey, going out in 1-over par 37 and in with 44.  Nathan Ashley finished with fifth place honors and round of 89.  Ashley carded five pars and a birdie at the par-5 7th hole, going out in 45 and in with 44.
