GCAmTour-Houston, Eagle Pointe Tournament Results, April 21, 2012

A beautiful spring day and windy conditions at Eagle Pointe Golf Club made the tournament challenging for GCAmTour players.  “Sudden Death” Playoff determines the winner of the Snead Flight at Eagle Pointe Golf Club, Mont Belvieu, TX. 

The Course:  Eagle Pointe Golf Club, Mont Belvieu, TX.  The course was in spring conditions; green and beautiful, making it’s transition to warmer weather.  The greens were nice, smooth, medium-fast speed, running around 9-10.

The Weather:  A very nice day for golf.  Beautiful blue sky and sun all day.  Temperatures were cool in the morning and warmed up to the low/mid 70’s in the afternoon.  The winds were strong most of the day from the NNW, 15-25mph, making the course challenging.   

The Tournament: 

Championship Flight:  Top 5:  Rich Vigil (73), Lynn Cormier (75), Bradley Davis (76), Craig Wakefield (78/40), Randy Tadlock (78/42).      
Rich Vigil captured his second victory of the season, this time with a 3-over low tournament round of 74.  Vigil carded nine pars and birdies at holes 7, 9, and 10.  Lynn Cormier finished runner up with a round of 75, two strokes back.  Cormier managed to card twelve pars and a birdie at the 9th hole.  Bradley Davis made the trip over from the Hill Country Tour and finished with third place honors and round of 76.  Davis carded six pars and birdies at holes 1, 9, 13, and 14.  Craig Wakefield finished with fourth place honors and round of 78/40, including eight pars and birdies at holes 1 and 6.  Randy Tadlock finished fifth place with a round of 78/42, including nine pars and birdies at holes 1, 8, and 15.


Palmer Flight:  Top 5:  Travis Nichols (76), Adam Anderson (78), Tino Flores (79/39/27/15/4/5/4), Mike Rutkoski (79/39/27/15/4/5/5), Frank Wallace (79/41).        
Travis Nichols has made splash in the Palmer Flight in his debut season, capturing his second victory.  Nichols fired a round of 76 including eight pars and birdies at holes 1, 2, and 4.  Adam Anderson finished runner up, two strokes back, with a round of 78.  Anderson carded nine pars and birdies at holes 7 and 13.  Tino Flores finished with third place on the “record” seventh tiebreaker, a tour first 79/39/27/15/4/5/4.  Flores carded eleven pars on the round.  Mike Rutkoski returned to tour action with a fourth place finish and round of 79/39/27/15/4/5/5.  Rutkoski carded ten pars on the round.  Frank Wallace finished with fifth place honors and round of 79/41, including ten pars and a birdie at the 1st hole.


Senior Palmer Flight:  Top 5:  Traylor Sells (78), Robert Corbello (79/38), Jan Peebles (79/39), Tom Crea (80), Jeff Whitzel (81).       
Traylor Sells successfully defended his title at Eagle Pointe, capturing his first victory of the 2012 season.  Sells victory round of 78 was one stroke clear of field, carding seven pars and birdies at holes 2 and 11.  Robert Corbello finished with runner up honors and round of 79/38, including nine pars and a birdie at the 9th hole.  Jan Peebles followed his victory at High Meadow with a third place finish at Eagle Pointe.  Peebles round of 79 included nine pars and a birdie at the 1st hole.  Tom Crea finished just one stroke back with a round of 80, good for fourth place honors.  Crea carded nine pars and a birdie at the 9th hole.  Jeff Whitzel finished with fifth place honors and round of 81, including nine pars and a birdie at the 8th hole.


Hogan Flight:  Top 5:  John Hunt (84), Abdiel Torres (88), Gus Aldana (89), Roger Masek (91/44), Leslie Henry (91/47).   
John Hunt made his Houston Tour debut by capturing his first tour victory.  Hunt’s round of 84 was four strokes clear of the field and included six pars.  Abdiel Torres returned to tour play and finished runner up with a round of 88.  Torres carded five pars and a birdie at the 9th hole.  Gus Aldana, suffering from a lingering calf issue, managed to finish with third place honors and round of 89.  Aldana carded six pars on the day.  Roger Masek finished with fourth place honors and round of 91/44, including three pars and a birdie at the difficult 15th hole.  Leslie Henry finished with fifth place honors and round of 91/47, carding five on the round. 


Senior Hogan Flight:  Top 5:  Michael Walker (80), Randy Kiziah (81), Michael Castaneda (83), Randy Tate (84), Craig Farris (86).
Michael Walker continues his good play by capturing this third victory of the season and going “back to back” with victories a his last two events!  Walker’s round of 80 included eight pars and birdies at holes 13 and 15.  Randy Kiziah finished runner up, just one stroke back, with a round a round of 81.  Kiziah chance at a playoff with Walker ended when he missed a short putt on the 9th.  Kiziah’s round included eight pars.  Michael Castaneda finished with third place honors and round of 83, carding nine pars and a birdie at the 13th hole.  Randy Tate finished just one stroke back with a round of 84, capturing fourth place honors.  Tate carded ten pars on the round.  Craig Farris finished with fifth place honors and round of 86, including nine pars. 



Sarazen Flight:  Top 5:  Thomas Kobayashi (85), James Sheppeard (87), David Cox (88), Russell Harris (90), Brandon Bellinger (92).
Thomas Kobayashi captured his second victory of the season and first Houston Tour victory two strokes clear with a round of 85.  Kobayashi’s round included five pars and birdies at holes 1 and 15.  James Sheppeard made his Sarazen Flight debut with a runner up finish and round of 87.  Sheppeard carded eight pars and the day.  David Cox finished with third place honors and round of 88.  Cox carded three pars and a birdie at the 15th hole.  Russell Harris finished with fourth place honors and round of 90, including three pars.  Brandon Bellinger followed up his victory at High Meadow with a fifth place finish at Eagle Pointe.  Bellinger’s round of 92 included three pars and a birdie at the 5th hole.


Senior Sarazen Flight:  Top 5:  Mark Maddox (81), Greg Faubion (82), Lahn Nguyen (83), Mark Kirby (84), Lane McKinney (85). 
Mark Maddox captured his first victory of the season one stroke clear of the field with a round of 81.  Maddox needed every stroke and carded eight pars and a birdie at the 17th hole.  Greg Faubion finished just one stroke back for runner up honors and round of 82.  Faubion carded nine pars on the round.  Lahn Nguyen finished with third place honors and round of 83.  Nguyen carded five pars and birdies at holes 4 and 17.  Mark Kirby finished with fourth place honors and round of 84, carding four pars and birdies at holes 14, 15, and 17, a late charge coming up just short.   Lane McKinney finished with fifth place honors and round of 85.  McKinney carded four pars and a birdie at the 3rd hole.


Jones Flight:  Top 5:  Randy Adcock (85), Mike Murphy (86/41), Travis Doughty (86/42), Lu Cormier (86/44), Neil MacDonald (87).   
The Jones Flight has exploded with a field of 22 players in this closely contested competition.  Randy Adcock, former National Champion and Horseshoe Bay Major Champion, captured his first Houston Tour victory of the season by one stroke and round of 85.  Adcock’s round included four pars and birdies at holes 4 and 12.  Mike Murphy, “The Silent Assassin”, finished runner up with a round of 86/41.  Murphy carded six pars and a birdie at the 9th hole.  Travis Doughty finished with third place honors and round of 86/42, carding four pars on the day.  Lu Cormier finished fourth place with a round of 86/44.  Cormier carded seven pars but found trouble at the 10th hole, costing her a chance for the victory.  Neil MacDonald finished with fifth place honors and round of 87.  MacDonald carded six pars and a birdie at the “narrow” 18th hole.


Snead Flight:  Elgin Amboree (93), Patrick Richardson (93), Dale Baggett (94), Rick Hagel (95), Marcy Glidden (100/51).
“Sudden Death” Playoff determines the winner of the Snead Flight at Eagle Pointe Golf Club, Mont Belvieu, TX.  When regulation play ended, two golfers carded leading round of 93.  Elgin Amboree and Patrick Richardson went to the 10th tee for the playoff and it was Amboree carding bogey for the victory.  In regulation play, Amboree carded five pars and Richardson carded two pars.  Dale Baggett finished with third place honors and round of 94, just one-stroke back.  Baggett carded two pars on the day.  Rick Hagel finished two strokes back with a round of 95, capturing fourth place honors.  Hagel carded four pars on the round.  Marcy Glidden, fresh of her victory at Terra Vista, finished with fifth place honors at Eagle Pointe.  Glidden’s round of 100/51 included a par at the 2nd hole.
