GCAmTour-Houston, The Woodlands Player Course Tournament Results

GCAmTour-Houston players take advantage of good course and weather conditions at The Woodlands Player Course.


The Course:  The Woodlands Player Course, The Woodlands, TX.  The course was in excellent condition, green fairways and rough.  The greens were very nice, smooth, and fast, running 11-12.

The Weather:  A nice day for golf with a mix of blue sky, sunshine, and clouds all day.  Temperatures were cooler in the morning and warmed up to the low 90’s in the afternoon.  The winds were calm most of the day from the WNW, 5-8 mph.   

The Tournament: 

Championship Flight:  Top 5:  Craig Wakefield (71), Chad Carroll (82/41), Lynn Cormier (82/45), John Jeffrey (84), Adam Kuzinski (86).
Craig Wakefield captured his first tournament victory of the year in “run-away” fashion by carded a 1-under par 71; eleven strokes clear of the field.  Wakefield carded a 3-under par 33 on the front nine that included birdies at holes 2 and 6, and an EAGLE-3 at the par-5 7th hole.  Chad Carroll fresh off his victory at High Meadow finished runner up at The Woodlands Player, carding a round of 82/41.  Carroll carded nine pars and birdies at holes 7 and 17.  Lynn Cormier finished with third place honors and round of 82/45.  Cormier carded nine pars and birdies at holes 4 and 11.  John Jeffrey returned to tour play with a fourth place finish and round of 84, including ten pars.  Adam Kuzinski finished with fifth place honors and round of 86, carding eight pars on the day.


Palmer Flight:  Top 5:  Aaron Pickering (74), Travis Nichols (77/36), Martin Nealey (77/39), Frank Wallace (82), Tino Flores (83).        
Aaron Pickering captured his first tour victory by firing the second lowest round of the tournament with a 2-over par 74.  Pickering was solid on the round, carding ten pars and birdies at holes 3, 7, and 18.  Travis Nichols remains steady and finished with runner up honors and round of 77/36.  Nichols carded ten pars and birdies at holes 11 and 16.  Martin Nealey lost the tiebreaker and finished with third place honors and round of 77/39.  Nealey carded ten pars and birdies at holes 1 and 7.  Frank Wallace managed to finish with fourth place honors and round of 82, including nine pars and a birdie at the 17th hole.  Tino Flores finished with fifth place honors and round of 83, carding seven pars and a birdie at the 2nd hole.


Senior Palmer Flight:  Top 5:  Jan Peebles (78), Dusty Rhodes (79), Herb Reynolds (81), David Anthony (82/38/25), Robert Corbello (82/38/27).       
Jan Peebles captured his second victory of the 2012 season, just one stroke clear of the field and round of 78.  Peebles carded twelve pars on the day and never made a double-bogey.  Dusty Rhodes finished just one stroke back for runner up honors and round of 79, including nine pars and birdies at holes 4, 7, 14, and 18.  Herb Reynolds returned to tour play and finished with third place honors and round of 81.  Reynolds carded ten pars on the day.  David Anthony finished with fourth place honors and round of 82/38/25, including ten pars and a birdie at the 16th hole.  Robert Corbello finished with fifth place honors and round of 82/38/27.  Corbello carded eight pars and birdies at holes 10 and 15.


Hogan Flight:  Top 5:  Matt Chabala (79), Shane Poston (82), Hubert Buffalo (85/43), Brenton Fillers (85/45), Leslie Henry (85/46).  
Matt Chabala captured his first tour victory three strokes clear of the field and round of 79.  Chabala carded eight pars and birdies at holes 12 and 16 on his way to the title.  Shane Poston finished with runner up honors and round of 82.  Poston carded seven pars and birdies at holes 9 and 15.  Hubert Buffalo made his tour debut with a third place finish and round of 85/43.  Buffalo carded eight pars on the day.  Brenton Fillers made his Houston Tour debut with a fourth place finish and round of 85/45, including five pars and birdies at holes 2 and 16.  Leslie Henry finished with fifth place honors and round of 85/46.  Henry carded six pars and a birdie at the 3rd hole.


Senior Hogan Flight:  Top 5:  Bill Mathews (79), Gene Rampy (80), Vernon Wells (82), Randy Hodges (84), Craig Farris (85).
Bill Mathews captured his fourth victory of the season and second victory in three days!  Mathews won the Lake of the Ozarks Major, Falconhead, and Woodlands Player in his last three starts.  Mathews round of 79 included eleven pars and a birdie at the 8th hole.  Gene Rampy made the trip from Bastrop worthwhile and finished runner up with a round of 80.  Rampy carded nine pars and a birdie at the 3rd hole.  Vernon Wells made a late charge and finished with third place honors and round of 82, including seven pars and birdies at holes 1, 2, and 17.  Randy Hodges finished with fourth place honors and round of 84.  Hodges carded eleven pars and a birdie at the 11th hole, but found trouble at 4 and 13.  Craig Farris finished with fifth place honors and round of 85, carding six pars and a birdie at the 3rd hole.



Sarazen Flight:  Top 5:  James Sheppeard (82), Thomas Kobayashi (85), Matt Purgahn (86), David Cox (88), Gary Gum (89). 
James Sheppeard has made the transition from Jones to Sarazen without losing a step, capturing his first Sarazen Flight victory of the season, four wins overall.  Sheppeard’s round of 82 included eight pars and a birdie at the 11th hole.  Thomas Kobayashi finished with runner up honors and round of 85, carding eight pars and a birdie at the 15th hole.  Matt Purgahn finished with third place honors and round of 86, including six pars and a birdie at the 7th hole.  David Cox finished with fourth place honors and round of 88.  Cox carded six pars and a birdie at the 16th hole.  Gary Gum finished fifth place with a round of 88, carding five pars on the day.


Senior Sarazen Flight:  Top 5:  Jim Craig (83), Bruce Legrand (88/44/29), Lahn Nguyen (88/44/30), Mark Kirby (88/46), Larry Viktorin (89). 
Jim Craig captured his second victory of the season, carding a round of 83 and five strokes clear of the field.  Craig had eight pars and a birdie at the 11th hole.  Bruce Legrand finished with runner up honors and round of 88/44/29, carding four pars and birdies at holes 7 and 8.  Lahn Nguyen finished with third place honors and round of 88/44/30.  Nguyen carded seven pars on the day (congratulations on your recent hole-in-one)!  Mark Kirby finished with fourth place honors and round of 88/46, including seven pars.  Larry Viktorin finished with fifth place honors and round of 89.  Viktorin carded five pars and birdies at holes 6 and 11. 


Jones Flight:  Top 5:  Adam Bray (88), Damian Shipley (94/47), Mark Dion 94/49), Troy Massey (96), Travis Doughty (98/49). 
Adam Bray captured his first victory of the season six strokes clear of the field and round of 88.  Bray carded six pars on the winning round.  Damian Shipley finished with runner up honors in his second event of the season and round of 94/47.  Shipley carded three pars and a birdie at the 16th hole.  Mark Dion finished with third place honors and round of 94/49, including pars at holes 2 and 12.  Troy Massey finished with fourth place honors and round of 96, carding pars at holes 5, 7, 9, 11, and 14.  Travis Doughty finished with fifth place honors and round of 98/49, including pars at holes 3, 8, and 11.


Snead Flight:  Kristopher Bixby (88), Damian Smith (96), Elgin Amboree (100/49), Dale Baggett (100/56), Patrick Richardson (101).
Kristopher Bixby captured his first victory of the 2012 season running away from the field by eight strokes and round of 88.  Bixby carded five pars and a birdie at the 11th hole en route to the title.  Damian Smith finished with runner up honors and round of 96.  Smith carded six pars on the round.  Elgin Amboree followed up his victory at Eagle Pointe with a third place finish at The Woodlands Player.  Amboree’s round of 100 included pars at holes 4, 6, 10, and 17.  Dale Baggett finished with fourth place honors and round of 100/56, including pars at holes 7, 8, and 9.    Patrick Richardson finished with fifth place honors and round of 101.  Richardson carded three pars and a birdie at the 3rd hole. 


Senior Snead Flight:  Rick Hagel (100), Jim Lamberth (103), Bryce Kocian (105), Cathay McGee (108), Dick Rutledge (113). 
Rick Hagel captured his second victory of the season, this time two strokes clear of the field and round of 100.  Hagel carded a par at the third hole and a birdie at the 14th.  Jim Lamberth finished runner up with a round of 103, including pars at holes 5, 11, and 14.  Bryce Kocian finished with third place honors and round of 105, including pars at holes 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7.  Cathay McGee finished with fourth place honors and round of 108, carding pars at holes 2 and 3.  Dick Rutledge returned to tour play with a fifth place finish and round of 113.  Rutledge carded six bogeys on the day.
