GCAmTour-Houston, WildCat Highlands Tournament Results, December 10, 2011

Cold Temperatures and strong winds challenge GCAmTour Players at WildCat Highlands.


The Course:  WildCat Golf Club, Highlands Course, Houston, Texas.  The course was in good condition, playing firm and fast.  The putting surfaces were smooth and fast, between 10-12.   


The Weather:  A cold day for golf with mostly cloudy skies throughout the day.  The temperatures were in the mid to high 50’s.  The winds were steady and strong throughout the day, 10-15mph with gusts over 20mph.


The Tournament: 


Championship Flight:  John Jeffrey (72), Lynn Cormier (77).
It was a “one on one” match in the Championship Flight between John Jeffrey and Lynn Cormier.  At the end of the day it was Jeffrey capturing the victory with an even-par round of 72.  Jeffrey carded twelve pars and birdies at holes 8, 10, and 11.  Cormier carded a good round of 77, including twelve pars and a birdie at the 10thhole.
     
Palmer Flight:  Top 5:  Tino Flores (80), Joe Sublett (82), Art Flores (83), Allan Collier (84), David Anthony (85/40).     
Tino Flores captured his first victory of the 2012 season two strokes clear of the field with a round of 80.  Flores was steady, carding twelve pars on the round.  Joe Sublett made his tour debut with a round of 82 and runner up finish.  Sublett carded ten pars on his round.  Art Flores finished one stroke back with a round of 83 for third place honors.  Flores carded seven pars and a birdie at the 14thhole.  Allan Collier finished fourth place with a round of 84.  Collier carded nine pars on the round.  David Anthony finished fifth place with a round of 85/40, including eleven pars.


Hogan Flight:  Top 5:  Roger Masek (83), Leslie Henry (85), Jacques Bessiere (85), Jeff Green (86), Shawn Didear (89).
Roger Masek captured his first victory of the 2012 season two strokes clear of the field with a round of 83.  Masek carded six pars and a birdie on the 18thhole.  Leslie Henry finished runner up with a round of 85/42/28.  Henry carded six pars on her round.  Jacques Bessiere finished with third place honors and round of 85/40/29.  Bessiere’s round included four pars and birdies at holes 9 and 11.  Jeff Green finished with fourth place honors and round of 86.  Green managed six pars on his round.  Shawn Didear returned to tour play with a fifth place finish and round of 89.  Didear carded six pars on the round.


Senior Hogan Flight:  Top 5:  Bob Miller (77), Randy Kiziah (77), Michael Walker (78), Christopher Phillips (84), Bill Schuster (87).
“Sudden Death” Playoff determines winner of the Senior Hogan Flight at Wildcat Highlands.  Bob Miller and Randy Kiziah both carded rounds of 77.  It was Miller carding a par-5 on the second hole for the victory.  Bob Miller seems to be enjoying retirement and spending some time on the golf course, it’s paying off.  Miller wins his second consecutive tournament with matching rounds of 77.  Miller carded eight pars and birdies at holes 8, 9, and 10.  Kiziah carded six pars and birdies at holes 1, 3, 9, 10, and 15.  Michael Walker finished just one stroke back with a round of 78 for third place honors.  Walker carded twelve pars and a birdie at the 5thhole.  Christopher Phillips carded a round of 84, capturing fourth place honors.  Phillips carded eight pars on the round.  Bill Schuster returned to tour play and finished with fifth place honors and round of 87.  Schuster carded eight pars and a birdie at the 14thhole.


Sarazen Flight:  Top 5:  Gus Aldana (88), Russell Harris (88), Michael Esquivel (91), Bryan Young (94/44), Massimo Passini (94/48).
“Sudden Death” Playoff determines the winner in the Sarazen Flight.  Gus Aldana and Russell Harris both carded round of 88 in regulation play.  On the first playoff hole it was Aldana capturing his second victory of the season.  Aldana carded seven pars in regulation play.  Harris returned to tour play with a runner up finish, carding six pars and a birdie at the 15thhole.  Michael Esquivel finished with third place honors and round of 91, including five pars and a birdie at the 7thhole.  Bryan Young finished with fourth place honors and round of 94/44.  Young carded five pars on the round.  Massimo Passini finished fifth place with a round of 94/48, including four pars.


Senior Sarazen Flight:  Top 5:  Charles Tucker (84), Lahn Nguyen (84), Randy Adcock (86/44), Nicky Baugh (86/45), Jay Crawford (88).
With daylight fading, a scorecard playoff determines the winner of the Senior Sarazen Flight.  Charles Tucker captured his first tour victory with a round of 84/40, including six pars and a birdie at the 18thhole.  Lahn Nguyen finished runner up with a round of 84/43.  Nguyen carded eight pars on the round.  Randy Adcock finished with third place honors and round of 86/44, including seven pars and a birdie at the 3rdhole.  Nicky Baugh finished with fourth place honors and round of 86/45.  Baugh carded eight pars on the round.  Jay Crawford finished with fifth place honors and round of 88.  Crawford managed four pars and birdies at holes 1 and 10.


Jones Flight:  Top 5:  Scott Thompson (87), Neil MacDonald (89), James Sheppeard (90/43), Phillip White (90/46), David McCasland (91).
Scott Thompson made his tour debut with victory and round of 87; two strokes clear of the field in the Jones Flight.  Thompson carded three pars and birdies at holes 5, 7, and 10.  Neil MacDonald finished runner up with a round of 89, including five pars.  James Sheppeard finished with third place honors and round of 90/43.  Sheppeard carded five pars and a birdie at the 18thhole.  Phillip White had his best finish of the season with a round of 90/46, capturing third place honors.  White carded three pars and birdies at holes 3 and 5.   David McCasland finished with fifth place honors and round of 91.  McCasland carded four pars and birdies at holes 4 and 6.


Snead Flight:  Robert Viator (95), Kristopher Bixby (96), Elgin Amboree (98), Reggie Guidry (99/48), Bruce Beakly (99/52). 
Robert Viator captured his first victory of the season by one stroke over the field, with a round of 95.  Viator carded four pars on his way to victory.  Kristopher Bixby finished with runner up honors and round of 96, including five pars.  Elgin Amboree made his tour debut with a round of 98, capturing third place honors.  Amboree carded two pars on the day.  Reggie Guidry finished with fourth place honors and round of 99/48.  Guidry carded three pars and a birdie on the 14thhole.  Bruce Beakly finished with fifth place honors and round of 99/52.  Beakly carded three pars on the round.

GCAmTour-Houston, Gleannloch Pines Event Recap, November 12, 2011

“Sudden Death” Playoffs determine the winner in three flights at the Gleannloch Pines event on the GCAmTour-Houston.

The Course:  Gleannloch Pines Golf Club, Spring, Texas.  The course was in fall conditions, green fairways and rough, playing firm.  The putting surfaces were in fall condition, slower, between 8.5-9.5.    

The Weather:  A beautiful day for golf with mix of sunshine, blue sky, and clouds.  Temperatures were in the mid 70’s and the winds were light in the morning and picked up from the S throughout the day, 10-15mph.

The Tournament: 

Palmer Flight:  Top 5:  Frank Wallace (72), Traylor Sells (76), Jeff Whitzel (76), Art Flores (78), David Anthony (79).       
Frank Wallace captured his first victory of the 2012 season four strokes clear of the field at Gleannloch Pines.  Wallace was steady on his round, carding thirteen pars and birdies at holes 7 and 18.  Traylor Sells finished runner-up with a round of 76/38.  Sells carded nine pars and birdies at holes 3, 7, and 12.  Jeff Whitzel finished with third place honors and round of 76/39.  Whitzel carded six pars and birdies at holes 1, 4, 7, and 11.  Art Flores finished just two strokes back with a round of 78, capturing fourth place honors.  Flores carded nine pars and a birdie at the 9thhole.  David Anthony finished with fifth place honors and round of 79/38.  Anthony carded ten pars and birdie at the 12thhole.

Hogan Flight:  Top 5:  Jacques Bessiere (79), Corbin Porter (82), Roger Masek (85), Shane Poston (86), Jeff Stahlhut (86).
Jacques Bessiere captured his first tournament victory of the 2012 season three strokes clear of the field with a round of 79.  Bessiere carded eleven pars on his round.  Corbin Porter finished three strokes back with a round of 82, claiming runner-up honors.  Porter carded eight pars and a birdie at the 8thhole.  Roger Masek carded a round of 85, capturing third place honors.  Masek carded four pars and birdies at holes 2, 7, 9, and 15.  Shane Poston finished with fourth place honors and round of 86/43/27.  Poston carded seven pars on the round.  Jeff Stahlhut finished with fifth place honors and round of 86/43/28.  Stahlhut carded eight pars on his round.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Top 5:  Bob Miller (77), Christopher Phillips (77), Michael Walker (79), Kevin Thibodeaux (80), George Smith (81).
“Sudden Death” Playoff determines the winner of the Senior Hogan Flight at Gleannloch Pines.  Bob Miller and Christopher Phillips both carded rounds of 77 in regulation play.  On the first playoff hole it was Miller pulling out the victory after Phillips found trouble off the tee.  Millers’ first victory of the season and round of 77 included six pars and birdies at holes 4, 9, 12, and 14.  Phillips round of 77 included ten pars and birdie at the 13thhole.  Michael Walker finished with third place honors and round of 79, including eleven pars.  Kevin Thibodeaux made his tour debut with a fourth place finish and round of 80.  Thibodeaux carded nine pars and a birdie at the 15thhole.  George Smith finished fifth place with a round of 81, including nine pars.

Sarazen Flight:  Top 5:  Nicky Baugh (86), Jeff Greenwood (86), Massimo Passini (92), Thomas Graves (93), Jason Hollis (93).
“Sudden Death” Playoff determines the winner of the Sarazen Flight at Gleannloch Pines.  Nicky Baugh and Jeff Greenwood both carded rounds of 86 in regulation play.  On the first playoff hole it was Baugh making a birdie from 4-5’ to capture the victory.  Baugh’s first victory of the season and round of 86 included five pars and birdies at holes 8 and 15.  Greenwood carded six pars and a birdie at the 7thhole in regulation play.  Massimo Passini finished with third place honors and round of 92, including four pars.  Thomas Graves finished fourth place with a round of 93/42, including five pars and a birdie at the 14thhole.  Jason Hollis finished fifth place with a round of 93/48, including four pars.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Top 5:  Steve Killion (78), Lahn Nguyen (78), Bruce Legrand (80), Charles Tucker (80), Mark Kirby (81).
 “Sudden Death” Playoff determines the winner of the Senior Sarazen Flight at Gleannloch Pines.  Steve Killion and Lahn Nguyen both carded rounds of 78 in regulation play.  On the first playoff hole it was Killion making par for the victory.  In regulation play, Killion carded eleven pars and a birdie at the 11thhole.  Nguyen carded eight pars and birdies at holes 3, 6, and 17 in regulation play.  Bruce Legrand finished with third place honors and round of 80/40/25, including seven pars and a birdie at the 17thhole.  Charles Tucker finished with fourth place honors and round of 80/40/26, including twelve pars.  Mark Kirby finished one stroke back with a round of 81, capturing fifth place honors.  Kirby carded six pars and birdies at holes 7 and 12.

Jones Flight:  Top 5:  Gary Gum (80), Rich Kelley (81), Phillip Sumang (84), James Sheppeard (87), Anthony McCain (89).     
Gary Gum captured his first victory of the 2012 season by one stroke over the field in the tightly contested Jones Flight with a round of 80.  Gum needed every shot and carded nine pars on the round, making a strong bid for a Sarazen Flight promotion.  Rich Kelley turned in one of his best tournament rounds of 81, for second place honors.  Kelley carded nine pars and a birdie at the 9thhole.  Phillip Sumang carded an outstanding round of 84 for third place honors.  Sumang carded five pars and birdies at holes 9 and 16.  James Sheppeard finished fourth place with a round of 87, including five pars.  Anthony McCain came over from the ATL-Tour and finished with fifth place honors and round of 89.  McCain carded four pars and a birdie at the 14thhole.

Senior Jones Flight:  Top 5:  Michael Bell (81), Mike Innes (86), Mark Boles (87), Neil MacDonald (87), Lu Cormier (88).     
Michael Bell captured his first victory of the 2012 season with an outstanding round of 81.  Bell has been playing well lately and may earn a promotion to the Senior Sarazen Flight and an exemption for Nationals.  Bell carded eight pars and a birdie on the 6thhole on the day.  Mike Innes made his Senior Jones Flight debut with a runner-up finish and round of 86.  Innes carded five pars on the round.  Mark Boles finished just one stroke back for third place honors with a round of 87/45.  Boles carded six pars on the round.  Neil MacDonald carded a round of 87/47, capturing fourth place honors.  MacDonald carded five pars on the round.  Lu Cormier finished just one stroke back with a round of 88, capturing fifth place honors.  Cormier carded five pars, a birdie at the 1sthole, and an EAGLE-3at the 7thhole.

Snead Flight:  Rick Clifton (83), Robert Viator (85), Jim Lamberth (85), Javier Quintero (86), Kristopher Bixby (91). 
Rick Clifton returned to play after a long layoff with an amazing round of 83 on the short set up at Gleannloch Pines.  Clifton’s victory round of 83 included seven pars and a birdie at the 9thhole.  Robert Viator finished runner-up with a round of 85/43, including seven pars.  Jim Lamberth finished with third place honors and round of 85/45.  Lamberth carded ten pars on the round.  Javier Quintero finished just one stroke back with a round of 86.  Quintero carded seven pars and a birdie at the 6thhole on the round.  Kristopher Bixby finished with fifth place honors and round of 91, including two pars and birdies at holes 7 and 9.

GCAmTour-Houston, 2012 Season Opener at Cypress Lakes Results

Houston Tour Players take advantage of great scoring conditions at Cypress Lakes and go low.

The Course:  Cypress Lakes Golf Club, Cypress Texas.  The course was in good condition, playing firm and fast.  The putting surfaces were smooth and fast, between 10-11.5.     

The Weather:  A beautiful day for golf with sunshine and blue sky.  Temperatures were in the mid to high 80’s.The winds were light from the S throughout the day, 5-10mph. 

The Tournament: 

Palmer Flight:  Top 5:  Rich Vigil (72) Lynn Cormier (74), Jeff Whitzel (74), Art Flores (75), Tino Flores (77/36).       
Rich Vigil captured his first victory of the 2012 season with an impressive round of even-par 72.  Vigil’s card was clean, fourteen pars, only two bogies, and birdies at holes 3 and 11.  Lynn Cormier finished second place with a round of 74/36.  Cormier carded ten pars and birdies at holes 2, 10, and 15.  Jeff Whitzel carded a round of 74/38 and finished with third place honors.  Whitzel carded fourteen pars and a birdie at the 1st hole.  Art Flores finished one stroke back for fourth place honors and round of 75.  Flores carded eleven pars and birdies at holes 6 and 9.  Five golfers carded rounds of 77, however it was Tino Flores winning the tiebreaker with a round of 77/36 to take fifth place honors.  Flores carded twelve pars and an EAGLE-3 at the 14th hole.

Hogan Flight:  Top 5:  Bryan Wood (79), Wes Reed (80), Jeff Green (83), Jeff Stahlhut (83), Jacques Bessiere (84/41).
Bryan Wood made the trip over from the SAA-Tour worthwhile as he picked up where he left off at Nationals; another round in the 70’s.  Wood’s round of 79 was good for the victory by one stroke.  Wood carded eleven pars and a birdie at the 6th hole.  Wes Reed finished just one stroke back with a round of 80, capturing second place honors.  Reed carded seven pars and birdies at holes 1 and 7.  Jeff Green returned to tour play with a round of 83/39 and finished third place.  Green carded nine pars on his round.  Jeff Stahlhut finished fourth place with a round of 83/41, carding eleven pars on the day.  Jacques Bessiere finished fifth place with a round of 84/41, including nine pars.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Top 5:  Michael Walker (71), Vernon Wells (79), Christopher Phillips (79), Daryl Epperson (80), Rickey Felts (80).
Michael Walker kicked off the 2012 season with grand fashion, and I’m not talking about those pink pants he was wearing!  Looking for redemption after Nationals, Walker recorded his lowest career round, lowest career tournament round, and low round of the event.  Walker’s 1-Under Par 71 included seven pars, birdies at holes 2, 7, 9, 13, and 14, and an EAGLE-3 at the 8th hole!  Congratulations to Mike!  Vernon Wells finished runner up with a round of 79/39, including ten pars and a birdie at the 14th hole.  Christopher Phillips finished with third place honors and round of 79/41.  Phillips carded eleven pars on the day.   Daryl Epperson finished with fourth place honors and round of 80/39.  Epperson carded nine pars and a birdie at the difficult 18th hole.  Rickey Felts finished with fifth place honors and round of 80/41.  Felts carded eight pars and a birdie at the 8th hole. 

Sarazen Flight:  Top 5:  Gus Aldana (80), Jeff Greenwood (81), Michael Esquivel (81), Jason Hollis (84), Robert Murphy (87).
Gus Aldana picked up where he left off last season and captured his first victory of the 2012 season.  Aldana fired a round of 80 to claim the title, including eight pars and birdies at holes 1 and 13.  Jeff Greenwood finished runner up with a round of 81/41/27, carding eight pars and a birdie at the 6th hole.  Michael Esquivel finished with third place honors and round of 81/41/29.  Esquivel carded nine pars and birdies at holes 2 and 14.  Jason Hollis finished fourth place with a round of 84.  Hollis carded eight pars and birdies at holes 7 and 18.  Robert Murphy finished fifth place with a round of 87, including seven pars.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Top 5:  Jim Craig (79), Mark Maddox (81), Bob Gonzales (81), Mark Kirby (82), Charles Tucker (83). 
Jim Craig started off the 2012 season with a two-stroke victory over the field in the competitive Senior Sarazen Flight.  Craig was steady, carding nine pars and birdies at holes 2 and 18.  Mark Maddox finished runner up with a round of 81/39.  Maddox carded eight pars and a birdie at the 17th hole.  Bob Gonzales finished with third place honors and round of 81/40.  Gonzales carded nine pars and a birdie at the 6th hole.  Mark Kirby finished just one stroke back with a round of 82.  Kirby carded eleven pars on the day.  Charles Tucker made his tour debut with the top-5 finish and round of 83, one-stroke back.  Tucker carded six pars and a birdie at the 10th hole.

Jones Flight:  Top 5:  James Sheppeard (80), Michael Bell (82), Scott Bradley (85), George Ramirez (89), Phillip Sumang (90).   
James Sheppeard has been dedicating a lot of time to his game and working hard for a flight promotion.  Sheppeard recorded his lowest tournament round since he began on tour and moved one step closer to that promotion with a round of 80.  Sheppeard’s round included eight pars and birdies at holes 2 and 7.  Michael Bell shot a round of 82 and finished runner up with what is usually a winning score in the Jones Flight, 82.  Bell carded nine pars and a birdie at the 9th hole.  Scott Bradley finished third place with a round of 85, including four pars and a birdie at the 9th hole.  George Ramirez finished fourth place with a round of 89, carding seven pars on the day.  Phillip Sumang made his tour debut with a fifth place finish and round of 90/43.  Sumang carded five pars and a birdie at the 10th hole. 

Snead Flight:  Rick Hagel (88), Marcy Glidden (88), Jim Lamberth (91), Patrick Richardson (93), Ronnie Sexton (94).
“Sudden Death” Playoff determines winner in the Snead Flight at Cypress Lakes Golf Club, Cypress Texas.  Eighteen holes were not enough to determine the winner so the players, Rick Hagel and Marcy Glidden, went to the first hole to determine the victor.  The first playoff hole was tied with par.  The second playoff hole was tied with par.  The third playoff hole was tied with par, with Glidden missing about a 5-footer for birdie.  On the fourth playoff hole both players found trouble in the trees and it was Hagel making bogey for the win, WOW!  In regulation play, Hagel carded seven pars and a birdie at the 14th hole.  Glidden carded six pars.  Jim Lamberth finished third place with a round of 91, including five pars and a birdie at the 8th hole.  Patrick Richardson finished fourth place with a round of 93, including five pars.  Ronnie Sexton finished fifth place with a round of 94, including six pars.
