GCAmTour-Houston, The Woodlands Tournament Course Results

Five players capture their first victory of the 2011 season on the difficult Woodlands Tournament Course.

The Course:  The Woodlands Tournament Course, The Woodlands, TX.  The course was in tournament condition, beautiful fairways, rough, and native areas.  The putting surfaces were smooth and fast, around 11.0-11.5.     

The Weather:  A beautiful day for golf with a lot of sunshine, mix clouds, and blue sky.  Temperatures were in the high 70’s early in the morning and warmed up rapidly to near 100.  The winds were from the SSW throughout the day, 15-20mph.  The strong winds swirling between the trees made for some challenging shots.

The Tournament: 

Championship Flight:  Top 5:  Al Swanson (79), Blake Vincent (81), John Jeffrey (83), Marshall Pryor (85). 
Al Swanson successfully defending his title at The Woodlands Tournament Course, this year with a round of 79.  Swanson was steady and carded twelve pars on the round.  Blake Vincent made his tour debut with a runner up finish and round of 81.  Vincent carded eight pars and birdies on holes 1 and 4.  John Jeffrey finished third place with a round of 83, including eight pars.  Marshall Pryor made his tour debut with a round of 85 and finished forth place.  Pryor carded six pars and birdies on holes 7 and 15.
      

Palmer Flight:  Top 5:  Frank Wallace (75), Esteban Vargas (80), Kevin Turner (80), Adam Anderson (80), Michael Geist (82).      
Frank Wallace won his fifth event of the season and goes back-to-back-to-back at The Woodlands Tournament Course.  Wallace had the driver and irons working well, carding nine pars and birdies at holes 9, 11, and 13.   Esteban Vargas made is tour debut with a runner up finish and round of 80/36.  Vargas carded eight pars and birdies on holes 2, 11, and 18.  Kevin Turner finished third place with a round of 80/37.  Turner carded seven pars and birdies at holes 1, 6, 13, and 15, perfect on the par-5’s.  Adam Anderson finished forth place with a round of 80/42.  Anderson carded nine pars and birdies at holes 1 and 4.  Michael Geist made the trip over from Rockwall, TX and finished fifth place with a round of 82.  Geist carded eight pars and a birdie at the first hole.


Senior Palmer Flight:  Top 5:  Traylor Sells (78), David Anthony (79), Robert Corbello (79), Roger Millican (84), Art Flores (84). 
Traylor Sells captured his second victory of the season, one stroke clear of the field with a round of 78.  Sells carded nine pars and birdies at holes 4 and 15.  David Anthony finished 2nd place with a round of 79/38.  Anthony carded ten pars and birdies at holes 12 and 16.  Robert Corbello finished third place with a round of 79/41.  Corbello carded nine pars and birdies at holes 1 and 15.  Roger Millican finished forth place with a round of 84/39, including eight pars and birdies at holes 1 and 11.  Art Flores finished fifth place with a round of 84/43, including eight pars.


Hogan Flight:  Top 5:  George Smith (78), Jeff Stahlhut (83), Chris Stavinoha (88), Graeme Cole (89), Al Campo (90).
George Smith captured his second victory of the season with a round of 78, five strokes clear of the field.  Smith was solid and carded eleven pars and a birdie at the 11th hole.  Jeff Stahlhut finished second place with a round of 83, including six pars and a birdie at the 1st hole.  Chris Stavinoha finished third place with a round of 88.  Stavinoha carded eight pars and a birdie at the 1st hole.  Graeme Cole finished forth place with a round of 89.  Cole carded five pars on the day.  Al Campo finished fifth place with a round of 90/45.  Campo carded five pars and birdies at holes 12 and 15. 

Senior Hogan Flight:  Top 5:  Randy Hodges (79), Bob Miller (81), Michael Walker (81), Bill Mathews (82), Daryl Epperson (84). 
Randy Hodges won his first tour victory at The Woodlands Tournament Course with a round of 79.  Hodges carded nine pars and birdies at holes 3, 11, and 17.  Bob Miller returned to tour action and finished runner up with a round of 81/39.  Miller carded nine pars and birdies at holes 4 and 15.  Michael Walker finished third place with a round of 81/42, including eight pars and birdies at holes 3 and 7.  Bill Mathews finished forth place, one stroke back, with a round of 82.  Mathews carded six pars and birdies at holes 1, 6, 7, and 10!  Daryl Epperson finished fifth place with a round of 84, including nine pars and a birdie at the 1st hole. 

Sarazen Flight:  Top 5:  Rick Allaire (81), Greg Stubblefield (82), Jeff Greenwood (87), Rick Smalley (90), Giancarlo Mangiafico (91).  
Rick Allaire captured his first tour victory by one stroke with a round of 81.  Allaire carded eleven pars on the round and was just one-over on the back nine.  Greg Stubblefield had the victory in his sights but 3-putted on the last hole to capture second place honors and round of 82.  Stubblefield carded eight pars and a birdie at the 7th hole.  Jeff Greenwood finished third place with a round of 87, including five pars and birdies at holes 3 and 15.  Rick Smalley finished forth place with a round of 90.  Smalley carded three pars and a birdie at the 2nd hole.  Giancarlo Mangiafico finished fifth place with a round of 91/40, including five pars and a birdie at the 15th hole. 

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Top 5:  Mark Maddox (81), Jim Craig (89), Larry Viktorin (90), Mike Murphy (91), Olan Benge (91). 
Mark Maddox captured his first tour victory in impressive fashion, eight strokes clear of the field with a round of 81.  Maddox carded eleven pars on his round!  Jim Craig returned to tour action with a runner up finish and round of 89.  Craig carded seven pars on his round.  Larry Viktorin finished third place for the third consecutive tournament.  Viktorin’s round of 90 included six pars.  Mike Murphy finished forth place with a round of 91/45.  Murphy carded four pars on the day.  Olan Benge finished fifth place with a round of 91/50, including five pars and a birdie at the 7th hole.

Jones Flight:  Top 5:  William Senne (91), Adam Bray (93), Troy Massey (94), Lee Isham (94), Gary Gum (96). 
William Senne captured his first tour victory two strokes clear of the field with a round of 91.  Senne carded six pars in route to victory.  Adam Bray finished runner up with a round of 93.  Bray carded five pars on the round.  Troy Massey finished third place with a round of 94/42.  Massey carded five pars on his round.  Lee Isham was fighting a sore leg throughout the day and finished with forth place honors.  Isham carded five pars on his round.  Gary Gum finished fifth place with a round of 96, including five pars. 

Snead Flight:  Bilal Jordan (94), Patrick Richardson (96), Robert Viator (110), Dave Salsgiver (112), Ed Polanec (124).  
Bilal Jordan captured his first victory of the 2011 season with a round of 94.  Jordan carded four pars and birdies at holes 11 and 15 to win by two strokes.  Patrick Richardson finished runner up with a round of 96.  Richardson carded five pars on his round.  Robert Viator finished third place with a round of 110.  Viator carded two pars on the day.  Dave Salsgiver finished forth place with a round of 112.  Salsgiver carded two pars on his round.  Ed Polanec made the trip over from the LA Tour and finished fifth place with a round of 124.  Polanec had one par on the day. 

Senior Snead Flight:  Rick Hagel (101), Dan O’Shea (103), Jim Lamberth (104), Steve Wyatt (108), Ronnie Sexton (112).      
The Tournament Course played tough for the Senior Snead players and it was a closely contested field.  Rick Hagel finished with the victory and round of 101.  Hagel’s one stroke victory included pars at holes 3 and 13.  Dan O’Shea made the trip over from the SAA-Tour and finished runner up with a round of 103.  O’Shea pared holes 3, 12, and 14.  Jim Lamberth finished third place with a round of 104, including pars at holes 2, 3, 13, and 16.  Steve Wyatt finished forth place with a round of 108.  Wyatt may have had the shot of the tournament after a great drive, holed out from 66yds for an EAGLE-2 at the par-4 12th hole.  Ronnie Sexton finished fifth place with a round of 112, including pars at holes 8 and 16.
