GCAmTour-Houston, Tour Championship at Meadowbrook Farms, August 18, 2012

GCAmTour-Houston, Year End Flight Champions are crowned at Meadowbrook Farms Golf Club, Katy, TX.

The Course:  Meadowbrook Farms Golf Club, Katy, TX.  The course was in good condition with green fairways and DEEP rough.  The greens were good, medium-fast, and smooth, running around 9-10.

The Weather:  A crazy day of weather with sunshine, clouds, rain, thunder, lightening, and wind.  Temperatures were hot & humid, near 80 in the morning and warmed up to the mid 90’s in the afternoon.  The heat index was over 100.  The winds were south, 8-10 mph.   

The Tournament: 

Championship Flight:  Top 5:  Randy Tadlock (75), Rikki Lackey (76/35), Travis Nichols (76/38), Rich Vigil (79/38), Aaron Pickering (79/42). 
Randy Tadlock captured his fifth victory of the season one-stroke clear of the field with a round of 75.  Tadlock, preparing for Nationals, carded eight pars and birdies at holes 1, 12, 16, and 18.  Rikki Lackey finished with runner-up honors and round of 76/35.  Lackey carded nine pars and birdies at holes 6, 15, and 16.  Travis Nichols captured third place honors with a round of 76/38, carding twelve pars and an EAGLE-3 at the par-5 4th hole.  Nichols also claimed Year-End Flight Champion honors in the process.  Rich Vigil finished with fourth place honors and round of 79/38, including six pars and birdies at holes 4, 17, and 18.  Aaron Pickering finished fifth place with a round of 79/42, carding nine pars and birdies at holes 6 and 12.  Lynn Cormier captured the Year-End Senior Championship Flight honors.


Palmer Flight:  Top 5:  Martin Nealey (78), Stephen Asp II (78), Frank Wallace (81/37), Cedrick Smith (81/39), Richard Werner (91).        
Sudden Death Playoff determines the winner of the Palmer Flight at Meadowbrook Farms Golf Club, Katy Texas.  Martin Nealey and Stephen Asp both carded rounds of 78 in regulation play.  On the first playoff hole it was Nealey carding a par-4 for the victory, his second of the season.  In regulation play, Nealey carded twelve pars and a birdie at the 7th hole.  Asp carded twelve pars and a birdie at the 17th hole in regulation play.  Nealey’s playoff victory also pushed him past Frank Wallace for Year-End Flight runner-up.  Frank Wallace finished with third place honors and round of 81/37, including eight pars and a birdie at the 15th hole.  Cedrick Smith returned to tour play and finished with fourth place honors and round of 81/39.  Smith carded nine pars and a birdie at the 14th hole.  Richard Werner finished fifth place with a round of 91, carding five pars.  Tino Flores captured the Palmer Flight Year-End Champion honors.


Senior Palmer Flight:  Top 5:  Jeff Whitzel (73), Robert Corbello (76), Herb Reynolds (78), Traylor Sells (80), Art Flores (85/42/25).
Jeff Whitzel captured his second victory of the season, this time with a tournament low round of 1-over 73.  Whitzel was solid, carding twelve pars and birdies at holes 12, 13, and 17.  Robert Corbello finished with runner-up honors and round of 76.  Corbello carded thirteen pars and a birdie at the 10th hole.  Herb Reynolds finished with third place honors and round of 78.  Reynolds carded nine pars and birdies at holes 7, 8, and 18.  Traylor Sells finished fourth place with a round of 80.  Sells round included eleven pars and a birdie at the 8th hole.  Art Flores finished with fifth place honors and round of 85/42/25, carding seven pars and birdies at holes 4 and 18.  Year-End Flight Champion went to Dusty Rhodes along with Senior Player of the Year honors.  Herb Reynolds finished runner-up for year-end flight honors.       




Roger Masek, Year-End Flight Champion

Hogan Flight:  Top 5:  Keith Storey (79), Matt Purgahn (81), Roger Masek (83/40), Leslie Henry (83/41), Shane Poston (84).
Keith Storey captured his second victory of the season and a birth into Nationals with his victory at Meadowbrook Farms.  Storey carded a round of 79 that included nine pars and birdies at holes 4 and 15.  Matt Purgahn proved he deserved the promotion to the Hogan Flight with a runner-up finish and round of 81.  Purgahn carded ten pars and a birdie at the 15th hole.  Roger Masek finished with third place honors and round of 83/40, including eight pars and a birdie at the 8th hole.  Masek’s finish was enough to the Year-End Hogan Flight Champion honors.  Leslie Henry finished with fourth place honors and round of 83/41.  Henry carded six pars and birdies at holes 8 and 14.  Henry’s strong second half season propelled her to finish with Year-End runner up honors for the Hogan Flight.  Shane Poston finished with fifth place honors and round of 84.  Poston carded seven pars and a birdie at the 15th hole.


Senior Hogan Flight:  Top 5:  Christopher Phillips (38), Daryl Epperson (39/24), Bill Mathews (39/27), Kevin Thibodeaux (40/25), Bob Miller (40/26).
Due to inclement weather the Senior Hogan Flight was a nine-hole contest.  Christopher Phillips finished a great season with a victory and round of 38.  Phillips carded three pars and birdies at holes 4, 7, and 9.  Phillips also captured Year-End Flight runner up honors.  Daryl Epperson finished with runner up honors and round of 39/24.  Epperson carded five pars and a birdie at the 4th hole.  Bill Mathews finished with third place honors and round of 39/27.  Mathews card six pars to start his day.  More importantly, Mathews captured his third consecutive Year-End Flight Championship for the Senior Hogan Flight, great accomplishment!  Kevin Thibodeaux finished with fourth place honors and round of 40/25, including six pars.  Thibodeaux’s finish was enough to get him to Nationals.  Bob Miller finished with fifth place honors and round of 40/26, including five pars and a birdie at the 4th hole.


Sarazen Flight:  Top 5:  James Sheppeard (39/25/10), Gary Gum (39/25/13), David Cox (42), Dung Huynh (44), Kyle Young (46).
Due to inclement weather the Sarazen Flight was a nine-hole event.  James Sheppeard had a good day and a great season.  Sheppeard captured his sixth victory of the season, Mid-Am Player of the Year honors, Tour Championship Victory, and Sarazen Flight Year-End Champion!  Sheppeard carded two pars and birdies at holes 3, 7, and 9.  Gary Gum finished the with Tour Championship runner up honors and Year-End Flight runner up honors with a round of 39/25/13.  Gum carded two pars and birdies at holes 6 and 8.  David Cox finished with 3rd place honors and round of 42.  Cox round included four pars and earned him and exemption into Nationals.  Dung Huynh finished with fourth place honors and round of 44, including three pars and a birdie at the 8th hole.  Kyle young finished with fifth place honors and round of 46, carding three pars. 


Senior Sarazen Flight:  Top 5:  Lahn Nguyen (39), Larry Viktorin (41/25), Greg Faubion (41/29), Mark Kirby (42/27/13/5/3), Marty Hodges (42/27/13/5/5).
Due to inclement weather the Senior Sarazen Flight was a nine-hole event.  Lahn Nguyen goes “back-to-back” by following up his Woodforest victory with a win at the Tour Championship at Meadowbrook Farms.  Nguyen also earned a spot into Nationals with his win.  Nguyen carded a round of 39 that included four pars and a birdie at the 7th hole.  Larry Viktorin finished with runner up honors and round of 41/25, carding five pars.  Greg Faubion finished with third place honors and round of 41/29, including two pars and birdies at holes 2 and 6.  Mark Kirby finished with fourth place honors and round of 42/27/13/5/3, carding three pars and birdies at holes 3 and 8.  Marty Hodges finished with fifth place honors and round of 42/27/13/5/5, including four pars and a birdie at the 6th hole.  Bruce Legrand earned the Year-End Flight Championship and Jim Craig was Year-End runner up.


Jones Flight:  Top 5:  Kristopher Bixby (41), Richard Kelley (44), Phillip Sumang (45), Bilal Jordan (47), Artis Stewart (49/33/15).
Due to inclement weather the Jones Flight was a nine-hole event.  Kristopher Bixby captured his fourth victory of the 2012 season, three strokes clear of the field with a round of 41.  Bixby carded four pars and also captured Jones Flight Year-End runner up honors.  Richard Kelley finished runner for the Tour Championship and also captured Jones Flight Year-End Championship honors.  Kelley’s round of 44 included three pars.  Phillip Sumang finished with third place honors and round of 45.  Sumang carded pars at holes 1 and 7.  Bilal Jordan, reining National Champion, finished with fourth place honors and round of 47.  Jordan carded pars at holes 4, 7, and 8.  Artis Stewart finished with fifth place honors and round of 49/33/15, carding a par at the 2nd hole. 



Senior Jones Flight:  Top 5:  Mike Murphy (42), Mark Dion (45/27), Mark Boles (45/31), Randy Adcock (46), Lu Cormier (47/30/16/5).
Due to inclement weather the Senior Jones Flight was a nine-hole event.  Mike Murphy captured his second victory of the season and played his way into Nationals.  Murphy’s round of 42 included three pars and a birdie at the fourth hole.  Mark Dion finished with runner up honors and round of 45/27.  Dion carded pars at holes 6, 7, and 8.  Mark Boles finished with third place honors and round of 45/31.  Boles carded pars at holes 1, 3, 6, and 9.  Boles also captured Senior Jones Flight Year-End Championship by finishing ahead of Randy Adcock.  Speaking of Mr. Adcock, former National Champion, he finished with fourth place honors and round of 46.  Adcock carded pars at holes 6 and 9, finishing runner up for Year-End Senior Jones Flight honors.  Lu Cormier finished with fifth place honors and round of 47/30/16/5, carding a par at the 4th hole.  Senior Jones will be represented well at Nationals with all of the above!


Snead Flight:  Javier Quintero (43/29), Elgin Amboree (43/31), Robert Viator (45), Patrick Richardson (46), Mitch Kerrigan (54).
Due to inclement weather the Snead Flight was a nine-hole event.  Javier Quintero captured his second victory of the 2012 season and round of 43/29.  Quintero played his way into Nationals with his victory and carded two pars and a birdie at the 3rd hole.  Elgin Amboree finished with runner up honors and round of 43/31, carding four pars and also played his way into Nationals.  Robert Viator finished with third place honors and round of 45, carding three pars.  Viator also claimed runner up honors for the Snead Flight Year-End Flight Championship.  Patrick Richardson finished with fourth place honors and round of 46, carding four pars.  Richardson’s finished was enough for him to claim Snead Flight Year-End Champion honors.  New player, Mitch Kerrigan finished with fifth place honors and round of 54, carding a par at the 7th hole. 


Senior Snead Flight:  Cathay McGee (41), Marcy Glidden (47), Stephen Sater (48/31), Tim Thayer (48/33), Rick Hagel (52).
Due to inclement weather the Senior Snead Flight was a nine-hole event.  Cathay McGee captured her third victory of the season at the Houston Tour Championship.  McGee played her way into Nationals with an outstanding round of 41.  McGee carded four pars and a birdie at the 9th hole.  McGee also claimed Senior Snead Flight Year-End runner up honors.  Marcy Glidden finished runner up at the Tour Championship with a round of 47, carding pars at holes 2 and 6.  Glidden’s finish was enough to earn her top honors claiming the Senior Snead Flight Year-End Championship.  Stephen Sater finished with third place honors and round of 48/31.  Sater finished the day with a birdie on the 7th hole.  Rick Hagel finished with fifth place honors and round of 52, including five bogeys.
