GCAmTour-Houston, Rayburn Cup Tournament Results, May 19, 2013

Jeff Zemencsik (Houston, TX) – GCAmTour-Houston players enjoy a day in the country at Rayburn Country, located in Brookland, Texas. The course was challenging with many elevation changes and undulating greens. The conditions provided for some competitive scoring and a “sudden death” playoff.

The Course: Rayburn Country, Brookland, TX. The course was in good condition with green tees, fairways, and putting surfaces. The undulating greens were good, running smooth and a bit slower than summer, 9-9.5.

The Weather: The warmest tournament day players have seen this season. Temperatures were in the mid-70’s early and warmed up to near 90 degrees. It was a great day for golf with a mix of sunshine, blue sky, and a few clouds. The winds were strong and steady from the S at 10-15mph, making scoring challenging.

The Tournament:

Championship Flight: Top 5: Dennis Reiner Jr. (75), Aaron Pickering (82), Randy Tadlock (87).

Dennis Reiner Jr. captured his second victory of the season and moved one step closer to qualifying for Nationals. Reiner Jr. carded the second lowest round of the event with a four-over 75, including ten pars and birdies at holes 5 and 9. Aaron Pickering returned to tour play and finished with runner up honors and round of 82. Pickering carded nine pars on the day but found trouble on the front nine holes 5-7. Randy Tadlock finished with third place honors and round of 87. Tadlock carded seven pars and birdies at holes 5 and 17 but had a tough stretch on 7-11.

Palmer Flight: Top 5: Jan Peebles (74), Frank Wallace (78), Drue Thompson (79), Robert Corbello (82/39), Martin Nealey (82/41).

Jan Peebles captured his third victory of the season and followed up his win at High Meadow Ranch with a win at Rayburn Country, identical round of 74 for the tournament low round. Peebles qualified for Nationals with the win and may have earned a promotion to the Championship Flight. Peebles carded thirteen pars and a birdie at the par-4 15^th hole. Frank Wallace finished with runner up honors and round of 78. Wallace carded twelve pars on the day. Drue Thompson finished with third place honors and round of 79. Thompson carded ten pars and birdies at holes 5 and 13. Robert Corbello finished with third place honors and round of 82/39. Corbello carded nine pars on the round. Martin Nealey finished with fifth place honors and round of 82/41. Nealey carded five pars and birdies at holes 3, 13, and the difficult par-4 18^th hole. A nice chip in from about 60yds out!

Hogan Flight: Top 5: Jeff Stahlhut (81), Rick Keszeg (82), Roger Masek (85/42), Chris Nelson (85/44), Matt Purgahn (90).

Jeff Stahlhut captured his third victory of the season and in doing so, qualified for Nationals. Stahlhut, playing well as of late, carded a round of 81 that included nine pars to finish one stroke clear. Rick Keszeg finished just one stroke back for runner up honors and round of 82. Keszeg carded seven pars and a birdie at the par-5 13^th hole. Roger Masek finished with third place honors and round of 85/42. Masek carded six pars and a birdie at the par-4 12^th hole. Chris Nelson finished with fourth place honors and round of 85/44. Nelson managed six pars and a birdie at the par-4 9^th hole. Matt Purgahn finished with fifth place honors and round of 90. Purgahn carded five pars but couldn’t keep the big numbers off the card.

Senior Hogan Flight: Top 5: Phillip Mayo (82), Vernon Wells (82), Daryl Epperson (83), Christopher Phillips (85), Bill Mathews (86).

“Sudden Death” Playoff determines the winner of the Senior Hogan Flight at Rayburn Country. Phillip Mayo and Vernon Wells both carded rounds of 82 in regulation play so they went back to the course to determine the winner. On the first playoff hole, the par-4 9^th, scores were match with par. On the second playoff hole, the par-5 1^st, scores were matched with bogey. On the third playoff hole, the par-4 9^th, Mayo captured the victory with a par-4! Mayo, the Louisiana Tour Player, captured his second victory in a row and carded nine pars in regulation play. Wells carded seven pars and a birdie at the par-5 13^th hole in regulation play. Daryl Epperson finished with third place honors and round of 83. Epperson carded eight pars and a birdie at the par-5 5^th hole. Christopher Phillips finished with fourth place honors and round of 85. Phillips carded ten pars and a birdie at the par-4 8^th hole. Bill Mathews finished with fifth place honors and round of 86. Mathews carded five pars and birdies at holes 1 and 12.

Sarazen Flight: Top 5: Mark Kirby (86), Chris Neelley (89), Woody Casasent (90), Clay West (91), Kevin Koy (93/45).

Mark Kirby captured his first victory of the season; three strokes clear of the field and round of 86. Kirby carded five pars and birdies at holes 8 and 13 en route to victory. Chris Neelley made his tour debut with a runner up finish and round of 89. Neelley carded five pars on the day. Woody Casasent finished with third place honors and round of 90. Casasent carded six pars on the day. Clay West returned to tour play and finished with third place honors and round of 91. West carded five pars and an EAGLE-3 at the par-5 1^st hole, driver/3-wood. Kevin Koy finished with fifth place honors and round of 93/45. Koy managed two pars on the round.

Jones Flight: Top 5: Kristopher Bixby (85), Kyle Young (86), Patrick Richardson (90/44), David Leird Smith (90/45), Neil MacDonald (92).

Kristopher Bixby captured his second victory of the season, this time in a closely contested battle with Kyle Young. Bixby carded a round of 85, one stroke clear of the field and included four pars and birdies at holes 1 and 5. Kyle Young finished with runner up honors and round of 86. Young carded five pars and a birdie at the par-3 17^th hole. Patrick Richardson finished with third place honors and round of 90/44. Richardson carded six pars on the round. David Leird Smith finished with fourth place honors and round of 90/45. Smith carded five pars on the day. Neil MacDonald finished with fifth place honors and round of 92. MacDonald carded four pars and a birdie at the par-4 11^th hole.

Snead Flight: Robert Viator (94), Javier Quintero (99), Rick Hagel (103/50), Richard Schram (103/54), Rob Biesel (120).

Robert Viator continues to dominate the Snead Flight and captured his fifth victory of the 2013 season including a major win at Horseshoe Bay. What’s interesting is that he has yet to break 90 this season, winning by scoring in the low/mid 90’s. Viator carded six pars on the day and a few “big” numbers en route to victory. Javier Quintero finished with runner up honors and round of 99. Quintero carded five pars on the day but found trouble on the back nine. Rick Hagel finished with third place honors and round of 103/50. Hagel carded two pars on the round. Richard Schram finished with fourth place honors and round of 103/54. Schram carded three pars on his round. Rob Biesel made his tour debut with a fifth place finish and round of 120. Biesel carded three bogeys on the round.

GCAmTour-Houston, High Meadow Ranch Tournament Results, May 4, 2013

Jeff Zemencsik (Houston, TX) – GCAmTour-Houston players take advantage of good course conditions and beautiful weather at High Meadow Ranch Golf Club. The good conditions provided for some competitive scoring and “sudden death” playoffs.

The Course: High Meadow Ranch Golf Club, Magnolia, TX. The course was in good condition despite 4-5 inches of rain over the past few weeks. The tees, fairways, and putting surfaces were green and plush. The greens were good, running smooth and a bit slower than summer, 9-9.5.

The Weather: Perhaps one of the best days we have seen this season with a mix of sunshine, blue sky, and a few clouds. It was a perfect afternoon for golf with temperatures in the mid 70’s early and warmed up rapidly to near 80 degrees. The winds were light and steady from the NNW 7-10mph.

The Tournament:

Championship Flight: Top 5: Micah Hill (74), Dennis Reiner Jr. (74), Gordon Wagner (76), Craig Wakefield (81/38), Chad Carroll (81/40).

“Sudden Death Playoff” determines the winner of the Championship Flight at High Meadow Ranch Golf Club, Magnolia, TX. Micah Hill and Dennis Reiner Jr. both carded rounds of 74 in regulation play. On the first playoff hole it was Hill carding par for the victory, his second in as many starts. In regulation play, Hill was steady and carded fifteen pars and a birdie at the par-4 18^th hole. Dennis Reiner Jr. finished with runner up honors and carded ten pars and birdies at holes 3, 5, and 15 in regulation play. Gordon Wagner finished with third place honors and round of 76. Wagner started out hot and carded seven pars and birdied at holes 1, 4, 9, and 10. Craig Wakefield finished with forth place honors and round of 81/38. Wakefield carded nine pars and a birdie at the par-5 10^th hole. Chad Carroll, 2012 High Meadow Ranch Champion, finished with fifth place honors and round of 81/40. Carroll carded seven pars and birdies at holes 6 and 18.

Palmer Flight: Top 5: Tino Flores (73), Travis Nichols (78), Frank Wallace (79), Drue Thompson (81/39), Steve Allison (81/40).

Tino Flores captured his first victory of the 2013 season five strokes clear of the field and round of 73. Flores was steady on the round, carding eleven pars and birdies at holes 6, 14, and 15. Travis Nichols finished with runner up honors and round of 78. Nichols carded eleven pars and a birdie at the par-5 13^th hole. Frank Wallace finished with third place honors and round of 79, one-stroke back. Wallace carded ten pars and a birdie at the par-4 15^th hole. Drue Thompson finished with fourth place honors and round of 81/39. Thompson carded seven pars and a birdie at the par-5 13^th hole. Steve Allison finished with fifth place honors and round of 81/40. Allison carded seven pars and birdies at holes 1 and 10.

Senior Palmer Flight: Top 5: Jan Peebles (74), Art Flores (77), Harold Jackson (81/39/26), David Arnold (81/39/27), Dusty Yantis (82/37).

Jan Peebles successfully defended his title at High Meadow Ranch from the 2012 season. Peebles matched the tournament low round of 2-over 74 and won six strokes clear of the field. Peebles carded fourteen pars and a birdie at the par-4 1^st hole. Art Flores finished with runner up honors and round of 77. Flores carded eleven pars and a birdie at the difficult par-4 8^th hole. Harold Jackson made his tour debut with a third place finish and round of 81/39/26. Jackson carded eight pars and birdies at holes 13 and 18. David Arnold finished with fourth place honors and round of 81/39/27. Arnold carded ten pars and a birdie at the par-5 13^th hole. Dusty Yantis made his tour debut with the fifth place finish and round of 82/37. Yantis carded eleven pars on the round including a 1-over par back nine.

Hogan Flight: Top 5: Leslie Henry (81), Roger Masek (82), Jeff Stahlhut (84/38), Ross Gonzales (84/43/29), Matt Purgahn (84/43/30).

Leslie Henry captured her second victory of the 2013 season, this time just one stroke clear of the field with a round of 81. Henry kept the big numbers off the card and made nine pars on the round. Roger Masek returned to good form and finished with runner up honors and round of 82. Masek carded ten pars and a birdie at the par-5 10^th hole. Jeff Stahlhut finished with third place honors and round of 84/38. Stahlhut carded eight pars and a birdie at the par-5 10^th hole. Ross Gonzales finished with fourth place honors and round of 84/43/29. Gonzales carded nine pars on the round. Matt Purgahn finished with fifth place honors and round of 84/43/30, including ten pars.

Senior Hogan Flight: Top 5: Christopher Phillips (81), Jeff Burwinkel (84), Eddey Neeley (86), Will Whitley (87/42), George Carlisle (87/43/29).

Christopher Phillips captured his first victory of the 2013 season three strokes clear of the field and round of 81. Phillips carded eight pars and a birdie at the par-5 2^nd hole en route to victory. Jeff Burwinkel returned to tour play and finished with runner up honors and round of 84. Burwinkel carded eight pars on his round. Eddey Neeley finished with third place honors and round of 86. Neeley carded eight pars and a birdie at the par-4 6^th hole but found trouble at the 4^th. Will Whitley finished with fourth place honors and a round of 87/42. Whitley carded seven pars and a birdie at the par-5 13^th hole, but found trouble at 1 and 10. George Carlisle finished with fifth place honors and a round of 87/43/29. Carlisle carded seven pars on the day.

Sarazen Flight: Top 5: Massimo Passini (85), James Sheppeard (87), Jeff Greenwood (88), Rick Smalley (89), Robert Murphy (90).

Massimo Passini captured his first victory of the 2013 season two strokes clear of the field and round of 85. Passini carded nine pars en route to victory with a solid back nine. James Sheppeard finished with runner up honors and round of 87. Sheppeard carded four pars and a birdie at the par-5 13^th hole. Jeff Greenwood finished with third place honors and round of 88, including eight pars. Rick Smalley finished with fourth place honors and round of 89 for the second consecutive tournament. Smalley carded six pars on the day. Robert Murphy finished with fifth place honors and round of 90, including five pars and a birdie at the par-5 10^th hole.

Senior Sarazen Flight: Top 5: James Wofford (79), Paul Bradley Rich (80), Olan Benge (84), Lee Brunell (89/45/31/14), Greg Faubion (89/45/31/15).

James Wofford captured his third victory of the 2013, following a Major Win at the Western Masters, with a win at High Meadow Ranch. Wofford finished one stroke clear with a round of 79 that included eleven pars. Paul Bradley Rich finished with runner up honors and round of 80, just one-stroke back. Rich carded ten pars against 8 bogeys. Olan Benge finished with third place honors and round of 84. Benge carded four pars and birdies at holes 5, 12, and 13. Lee Brunell finished with fourth place honors and round of 89/45/31/14. Brunell carded six pars on the day. Greg Faubion finished with fifth place honors and round of 89/45/31/15. Faubion carded five pars on the round.

Jones Flight: Top 5: Randy Adcock (87/43), John Scott (87/44), Kristopher Bixby (89), Troy Massey (91), Mike Innes (92/45/30/15).

Randy Adcock, 2010 National Champion, captured his first victory of the 2013 season on a scorecard playoff. Both Adcock and John Scott carded rounds of 87 and without daylight for a course playoff the scorecards determined the winner. Adcock carded eight pars en route to victory. John Scott finished with runner up honors and round of 87/44. Scott carded six pars on the round. Kristopher Bixby finished with third place honors and round of 89. Bixby carded five pars on his round. Troy Massey finished with fourth place honors and round of 91, including five pars. Mike Innes finished fifth place with a round of 92/45/30/15. Innes had three pars on the round.

Snead Flight: Richard Schram (91), Myron Brown (94), Rick Hagel (98), Javier Quintero (99), Carl Eaton (102/48/32).

Richard Schram captured his third tournament victory, and earned a qualifying spot for Nationals in the process. Schram fired a round of 91 en route to victory, including seven pars. Myron Brown returned to tour play and finished with runner up honors and round of 94. Brown carded five pars on the round. Rick Hagel finished with third place honors and round of 98. Hagel carded three pars on the day. Javier Quintero finished with fourth place honors and round of 99. Quintero carded two pars. Carl Eaton finished with fifth place honors and round of 102/48/32. Eaton carded eight bogeys and a birdie at the par-5 13^th hole.
