GCAmTour-Houston, Woodforest Tournament Results, July 9, 2011

“Sudden Death” playoffs determine the winners of the Senior Palmer and Senior Sarazen Flights at Woodforest Golf Club, Montgomery, TX. 


The Course:  Woodforest Golf Club at Fish Creek, Montgomery, TX.  The course was in excellent condition, beautiful fairways, rough, and native areas.  The putting surfaces were smooth and fast, posted at the clubhouse at 12.0.     

The Weather:  A beautiful day for golf with a mix of sunshine, clouds, rain and blue sky.  Temperatures were in the high 70’s early in the morning and warmed up rapidly to the high 90’s.  The winds were from the S throughout the day, 5-8mph.  The conditions were good for scoring and the players took advantage of it.

The Tournament: 

Palmer Flight:  Top 5:  Frank Wallace (77), Kevin Turner (80), Tino Flores (81), Jim Lam (81), Dave Davlin (82).      
Frank Wallace won his sixth event of the season and goes back-to-back-to-back-to-back on the Houston Tour for four in a row.  Wallace rolled the ball well on the fast greens carding eleven pars and a birdie at the 3rd hole.  Kevin Turner finished runner up for the second consecutive event, posting a round of 80.  Turner had his chances, carding nine pars, and birdies at holes 3 and 6.  Turner couldn’t avoid the big numbers at holes 5, 12, and 15.  Tino Flores finished third place carding a round of 81/42.  Flores managed to card ten pars and birdies at holes 7 and 16.  Jim Lam finished fourth place with a round of 81/43, carding eight pars and a birdie at the 6th hole.  Dave Davlin made the trip over from the SAA Tour and finished fifth place.  Davlin carded nine pars and a birdie at the 13th hole. 


Senior Palmer Flight:  Top 5:  Tom Crea (72), Lynn Cormier (72), David Anthony (77), Walter Menuet (78), Allan Collier (78). 
“Sudden Death” playoff determines the winner of the Senior Palmer Flight at Woodforest Golf Club, Montgomery, TX.  Tom Crea captured his first victory on tour in dramatic fashion, winning a two-hole playoff.  Crea fired his lowest tournament round of even par 72, including ten pars and birdies at holes 5, 8, 11, and 18.  Lynn Cormier also carded an outstanding round of even par 72, including fourteen pars and birdies at holes 2 and 16.  Both tied the first playoff hole and Crea won it with a par on the second playoff hole.  David Anthony finished third place with a round of 77.  Anthony carded twelve pars and a birdie at the 15th hole.  Walter Menuet finished fourth place with a round of 78/41, including eight pars and birdies at holes 3 and 6.  Allan Collier finished fifth place with a round of 78/42, including eleven pars and a birdie at the 4th hole.


Hogan Flight:  Top 5:  Shawn Didear (77), George Smith (82), Jeff Stahlhut (83), Graeme Cole (84), Jacques Bessiere (85).
It’s been awhile since Shawn Didear has tasted victory, dating back to his last win in October of 2010.  He successfully defended his title at Woodforest with an outstanding round of 77.  Didear carded twelve pars and a birdie at the 3rd hole.  George Smith continues to play well and finished runner up with a round of 82.  Smith carded seven pars and birdies at holes 14 and 16.  Jeff Stahlhut finished just one stroke back for third place honors with a round of 83.  Stahlhut carded eleven pars.  Graeme Cole finished one stroke back with a round of 84, for fourth place honors.  Cole carded five pars and birdies at holes 6 and 9.  Jacques Bessiere finished fifth place with a round of 85, including six pars and birdies at holes 3 and 15. 

Senior Hogan Flight:  Top 5:  Jim Mass (75), Randy Hodges (77), Vernon Wells (79), Michael Walker (81), Craig Duncan (83). 
Jim Mass captured his second victory of the season with an outstanding round of 75; two strokes clear of the field.  Mass carded nine pars and birdies on holes 3, 15, and 18.  Randy Hodges continues to play well and finished runner up with a round of 77.  Hodges carded twelve pars and birdies on holes 5 and 6.  Vernon Wells finished third place with a round of 79, including twelve pars and a birdie on the 9th hole (1-under 35 on the front nine).  Michael Walker finished fourth place with a round of 81.  Walker carded nine pars and a birdie at the 6th hole.  Craig Duncan finished fifth place with a round of 83/43.  Duncan carded seven pars and birdies at holes 2 and 8. 

Sarazen Flight:  Top 5:  Roger Masek (79), Greg Stubblefield (85), Gus Aldana (87), Rick Smalley (88), Giancarlo Mangiafico (91). 
Roger Masek captured his second victory of the season, this time with a round of 79.  Masek was steady, carding eleven pars and a birdie at the 3rd hole.  Greg Stubblefield finished runner up for the second consecutive tournament, carding a round of 85.  Stubblefield carded ten pars and an EAGLE-3 at the par-5 6th hole.  Gus Aldana finished with third place honors, carding a round of 87.  Aldana had seven pars and a birdie at the 9th hole.  Rick Smalley finished just one stroke back with a round of 88.  Smalley carded seven pars on the round.  Giancarlo Mangiafico finished fifth place with a round of 91.  Mangiafico carded eight pars and a birdie at the 2nd hole. 

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Top 5:  Randy Adcock (83), Mike Murphy (83), Mark Kirby (85), Marty Hodges (86), Jim Craig (88). 
“Sudden Death” playoff determines the winner of the Senior Sarazen Flight at Woodforest Golf Club, Montgomery, TX.  Randy Adcock (reining Senior Jones National Champion) captured his first victory in the Senior Sarazen Flight with a round of 83.  Adcock putt the ball from about ten feet off the green and made birdie on the first playoff hole.  Adcock had seven pars and birdies on holes 13 and 14 during regulation play.  Mike Murphy was the other player in the playoff, also carding a round of 83 to get in.  Murphy couldn’t match the birdie on the first playoff and finished runner up.  Murphy carded six pars and birdies on holes 3, 5, and 6 during regulation play.  Mark Kirby finished third place with a round of 85, including eight pars and a birdie at the 16th hole.  Marty Hodges finished fourth place with a round of 86, carding seven pars on the day.  Jim Craig finished with fifth place honors and round of 88, including eight pars. 

Jones Flight:  Top 5:  Lee Isham (87), Hal Wychopen (88), Rich Kelley (90), Lu Cormier (92), Gary Gum (93).   
Lee Isham finally broke through and captured his first tour victory in the tightly contested Jones Flight, by one stroke.  Isham’s round of 87 included five pars and a birdie at the 16th hole.  Hal Wychopen returned to tour play and captured second place honors with a round of 88.  Wychopen carded four pars and birdies on holes 6 and 13.  Rich Kelley finished with third place honors and round of 90.  Kelley carded five pars on the round.  Lu Cormier is adjusting to the Jones flight and finished fourth place.  Cormier’s round of 92 included five pars.  Gary Gum finished fifth place with a round of 93.  Gum had five pars on the round. 

Snead Flight:  Patrick Richardson (87), Robert Viator (91), Mike Innes (93), Marcy Glidden (98), Tom Eysenbach (101).   
Patrick Richardson captured his third victory of the season, matching his lowest tournament round score of 87.  Richardson carded seven pars on the round.  Robert Viator finished runner up for the second consecutive tournament, carding a round of 91.  Viator made five pars on his round.  Mike Innes finished with third place honors and round of 93.  Innes carded four pars on the round.  Marcy Glidden finished with fourth place honors and round of 98.  Glidden had five pars on the round.  Tom Eysenbach finished fifth place with a round of 101.  Eysenbach carded two pars on the round.
